Crunchyroll Will Stream ‘Fate/strange Fake’ Episode 1 for Free for a Limited Time, and Here Is What We Know About Episode 2

As a seasoned gamer with a deep-rooted affection for the Fate series, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming release of “Fate/strange Fake.” Having dived into countless anime adaptations and video games based on this enchanting franchise, it’s heartening to see that the latest iteration is going to be available on Crunchyroll – my go-to platform for all things anime.

Type-Moon’s Fate series primarily revolves around the Holy Grail Wars, fierce battles where Masters (gifted mages) and Servants (manifestations of summoned legendary figures) compete for the powerful artifact known as the Holy Grail, overseen by Takashi Takeuchi in artistic aspects and directed by Kinoko Nasu.

The storyline of the visual novel “Fate/Stay Night” sparked off a series, encompassing prequels, sequels, spoofs, and variations – all linked by the common prefix “Fate”. Because of its immense fame, this franchise has produced many renowned anime adaptations and thriving video games.

The anime version is the most well-known rendition of the original works, and we’re thrilled to announce that a new installment in the anime lore will be released later this year. However, viewers within region-locked territories who are fortunate enough can enjoy a complimentary sneak peek of the latest Fate anime series, specifically Fate/strange Fake, right now!

Crunchyroll is widely recognized as the leading distributor of anime in the Western world, even though a few other streaming platforms have snatched some prominent titles from them. Nevertheless, Crunchyroll continues to be the most reliable and preferred choice for Western anime enthusiasts. Given this, it’s only logical that the Fate series is distributed by them, implying that the upcoming Fate/strange Fake anime will also be accessible on their platform.

In a preview of things to come for the anime “Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn,” its first episode was shown on July 2, 2023. Officially, the series will start airing on December 31, 2024, but fans got a sneak peek at it beforehand, as they were able to attend a special screening in Hollywood on November 23, 2024. This exclusive event allowed attendees to witness the first episode, titled “The Heroic Spirit Incident.” However, that’s not all!

As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news! The first episode of the show I’m eagerly waiting for is now available for free on Crunchyroll’s YouTube channel. You can catch it right here: [Crunchyroll YouTube Channel Link] Enjoy the game-filled adventures!

If the video isn’t playing for you, I want to clarify a few points. First, the video is restricted by region, meaning if you’re not within the authorized territories, you won’t be able to watch it legally. Second, this is actually a dubbed version of Episode 1, so if you prefer original dialogue or are not fond of dubs, this might work in your favor. However, if you’re a fan of the original voices… I’m afraid you’ll miss out. Lastly, the episode will only be available online for a week, after which it will be removed.

As said, the Japanese version will be released on December 31 and we assume that the anime will continue airing on a weekly basis after that date. As for Fate/strange Fake, it is based on Ryogo Narita’s light novel series that actually began as an April Fool’s prank; the original story, “Fake/states night,” was released on April 1, 2008. The prank was later removed, but was re-released in the form of a novel and is still being published since 2015; there are nine volumes as of the time of writing this.

The anime will adapt the story, whose official synopsis reveals the following information:

In approximately 2009, the storyline of Fate/strange Fake unfolds. The narrative revolves around a botched replica of the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki, which occurred seven decades earlier. After the conclusion of the third Grail War, an American organization comprised of magi independent from the London Mage Association, utilized data from Fuyuki’s Grail War to perform their own ritual. They selected Snowfield as their Sacred Land for this new Grail War. However, they failed to perfectly replicate every aspect of the original ritual, leading to a diluted version that lacked the Saber class and allowed for the summoning of peculiar Servants since the definition of “hero” had become less clear-cut.

Alongside the information we provided, a new character poster was also released:
