Tula and Lila’s Bond and The Agony: A Recap of The Sisterhood School Storyline in Episode 2 of Dune: Prophecy
A Power Struggle Is Emerging Between Valya and Tulu Harkonnen
Following the unexpected demise of Reverend Mother Kasha in the first episode of Dune: Prophecy, Valya Harkonnen discovers that Pruet Richese has met a similar fate. With this knowledge, Valya feels compelled to approach the Emperor and reestablish the Sisterhood’s dominion over him while ensuring Princess Ynez remains under their influence. As revealed in episode one, Valya desires to place a Sister on the throne, and she sees getting Princess Ynez to join the Sisterhood as crucial to her plan. Furthermore, Valya believes these fiery deaths are what Mother Raquella foretold in her deathbed prophecy when she told Valya that she would “witness the blazing truth” and understand its implications. In her mind, these deaths signify the impending doom mentioned in that prophecy.
Prior to leaving, she instructs her sister, Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen, to persuade Sister Lila, who is the great-great-granddaughter of Mother Raquella, to undergo “The Agony” – a perilous ritual meant to retrieve memories from her ancestors. This ritual carries grave risk as it requires self-poisoning followed by an attempt to withstand the poison’s effects. The Sisterhood hopes that if Lila can connect with her forebearer, they could uncover valuable insights about the prophecy.
In this situation, Tula disregards the Sisterhood’s counsel by viewing Lila as her daughter. On the other hand, Valya encourages Tula to disregard these feelings and pressure Lila into undergoing a ritual for the benefit of the Sisterhood. However, Tula advocates for Lila’s freedom of choice. The ongoing debate between Tula and Valya reveals strains in their sisterly bond. Tula suspects that Valya regards her as weak and is not fully aligned with Valya’s strategies. Eventually, despite their disagreement, Valya entrusts the leadership of the Sisterhood to Tula during her absence.
Sister Lila Chooses to Undergo The Agony to Meet Her Mother
In keeping with her promise, Tula refrains from compelling Sister Lila to experience The Agony, instead urging its significance. Their bond is evident. While part of Lila yearns to undergo The Agony out of devotion to the Sisterhood and its preservation, a conversation between them reveals that Lila suspects she could encounter her mother during this ordeal. As of now, we’re unaware of Lila’s mother in ‘Dune: Prophecy’, but it seems this detail may hold significant importance.
In the end, it seems as though Lila chooses to experience The Agony in hopes of reuniting with her mother. However, upon ingesting the poison, she discovers that her mother was alive all along. So, did Tula deceive Lila for her own gain or was she mistaken? Only future episodes of Dune: Prophecy can provide the answer.
Dune: Prophecy Reveals More About Its Prophecy
Despite Lila not achieving her goal, it’s the Sisterhood that ultimately gains something. In episode two, Lila communicates with Mother Raquella who reveals new insights about the prophecy in “Dune: Prophecy”. Mother Raquella states via Lila, “The resolution to this conflict is one reborn twice, first in blood and then in spice. A soul marked by wounds. A tool forged in battle. On a journey destined to be brief.
It’s clear that Mother Raquella seems to be referring to Desmond Hart in this context, a man who was born once on Earth and then again on the planet Arrakis, also known as the spice-bearing planet, due to the influence of the sandworm or Shai-Hulud. Unfortunately, Raquella does not provide any additional details about how to halt him or whether it’s necessary to do so. However, it appears that the Sisterhood may not be privy to our knowledge. Could the prophecy of Tiran-Arafel from Dune: Prophecy indicate that Desmond Hart will become a tyrant who wields holy judgement? We can only speculate and wait for more information to unfold.
Is Sister Lila Dead on Dune: Prophecy?
In the second installment of Dune: Prophecy, Sister Lila’s fate seems grim. To begin with, she was poisoned as part of The Agony, a ritual that causes immense pain. Secondly, Dorotea, who you may recall was killed by Valya using The Voice to seize control of the Sisterhood in the first episode, is Lila’s grandmother. Dorotea appears to be seeking revenge on the Harkonnens by targetting what Tula cherishes most: Lila. Dorotea declares, “Harkonnen, you stole my future. Now I’m taking your hope.” Although we haven’t received official confirmation in Dune: Prophecy episode two, Lila’s situation doesn’t appear promising.

The Struggles of the Great Houses: A Recap of the Salusa Secundus Storylines in Episode 2 of Dune: Prophecy
Valya Still Wants Princess Ynez to Join the Sisterhood
In the meantime, Valya escorts Sister Theodosia to Salusa Secundus, where they plan to confront Emperor and Princess Ynez. Although the details of her past are still unclear in “Dune: Prophecy”, episode two, Sister Theodosia seems unusually eager for assassination attempts, suggesting a troubled history.
Task for Princess Ynez: To build a trusting relationship with Theodosia, serving as her confidante. However, Ynez appears reluctant about spending a night together, and she’s preoccupied with the circumstances surrounding Kasha’s demise instead. Expect further exploration of this theme in upcoming scenes.
A Steamy Dune: Prophecy Scene
Episode two of Dune: Prophecy escalated the tension by introducing a passionate moment between Prince Constantine Corrino and Duke Richese’s daughter. The duke’s daughter manages to extract details about her brother’s fiery demise from Constantine during their… kiss. She also hinted at the fact that Arrakis and spice are of utmost importance, stating “Power lies in the desert planet.” She astutely observed, “The Great Houses, the Spacing Guild, the Sisterhood, they all understand this.” In response, Constantine accidentally reveals that his father had arrested Desmond Hart under suspicion of her brother’s death. This scene gives us a glimpse into Constantine as a somewhat naive and charming prince. We can’t wait to see more layers to his character unfold.
A Rebellion Is Emerging on Dune: Prophecy
In the world of Salusa Secundus within “Dune: Prophecy”, it’s revealed that a hidden rebellion is simmering, unnoticed by the powerful Great Houses. The King’s personal swordmaster, Kieran Atreides, secretly supports this uprising and has been covertly studying palace layouts. He is driven by the conviction that spice should be accessible to all, and is prepared to engage in violent confrontation to achieve this goal, despite his close relationship with Princess Ynez.
In episode two of “Dune: Prophecy”, we discover there’s a Sisterhood spy within the rebellion, named Mikaela. She explains that while the Sisterhood supports the Great Houses to preserve order, it also lets rebellion serve as a check on their power. It appears that the Sisterhood’s influence goes far and deep indeed. In this case, they orchestrated the attack on the Emperor’s spice-mining vessels in Arrakis – a detail we learned from episode one. The Sisterhood seems to be guided solely by its own interests, merely appearing to serve the Great House it claims to work for. However, by meddling excessively in this situation, the Sisterhood may have inadvertently created their most formidable foe, as Desmond Hart was granted powers by a sandworm due to their interference.
The Romance of Princess Ynez Corrino and Kieran Atreides (And Some Backstory)
Although Kieran Atreides swears that he’s loyal to Dune: Prophecy‘s rebellion in episode two, he’s still getting pretty close to Princess Ynez Corrino. Ynez reveals to him that she was once captured by rebels as a child, alongside Constantine, in an undoubtedly traumatic experience. She notes they are just pieces on the board, and Kieran seems to agree. How will this romance impact his dedication to the rebellion? That question is on our minds.

Episode 2 Reveals More About Desmond Hart: His Powers, Dune: Prophecy Goals, and Why He Hates Valya Harkonnen and the Sisterhood
Later on, we find Desmond Hart, who in the second episode of Dune: Prophecy, admits to Emperor Corrino that he murdered Pruett Richese and hints that the Emperor was behind this act. However, despite his arrest, it’s evident that the Emperor and Empress are captivated by Desmond’s powers and his intense devotion to them and the Imperium. It transpires that Desmond Hart alleges he was consumed by a sandworm in Dune: Prophecy, an incident which the Emperor claims to have witnessed through surveillance. Remarkably, this sandworm, known as Shai-Hulud, bestowed Desmond with a gift of power upon swallowing him.
As Valya enters, she’s adamant about grilling Desmond, convinced he played a part in Mother Kasha’s demise. Desmond confesses to offing Pruett Richese but remains tight-lipped regarding Kasha. However, he hints at her rottenness, pointing out the crimson trickles from Valya’s hand – a grim reminder of the Harkonnens. He lashes out at the Sisterhood for sabotaging the Emperor, eroding his authority and reducing him to bow before weaker rulers. When pushed further, Desmond discloses that “the Shai-Hulud stole my eye but bestowed upon me a gift – the sight of things unseen by mere mortals like you.” It appears that the Shai-Hulud, his abilities, and the prophecy are all intertwined in some mysterious way. (From the perspective of Desmond as a gamer)
In the “Dune: Prophecy” episode two, Desmond expresses to Empress Natalya Corrino that the Emperor claims innocence in the deaths of Kasha and Pruett, as he was far away when these events occurred. However, it seems quite plausible to us that he could be responsible. Valya suspects his intentions are to gain proximity to the throne, and she may well be correct. Furthermore, Desmond hints at his ability to perform both wondrous and devastating acts, stating that he can “bring low those who seek to rob you or influence you with deceitful counsel.
To clarify his position, he publicly executes Duke Richese in front of Emperor Corrino, thereby putting an end to their disputes brutally. In this manner, it appears that Desmond Hart has managed to gain favor with the Imperial Family of the Imperium at the conclusion of Dune: Prophecy, episode two.
Valya and Desmond Face Off: Dune: Prophecy Season 1, Episode 2’s Ending Explained
In episode two of “Dune: Prophecy,” Desmond’s successful demonstration to the emperor results in his release, and he encounters Valya who is en route to consult with the Imperium’s ruler. Valya aims to inform the emperor about the planned rebellion assault she orchestrated on Corrino on Arrakis, as well as the spy within the palace, Kieran Atreides. Her intention is to regain the trust of the Royal Family by providing this information. To put it another way, Valya initially wanted the rebels to attack Corrino on Arrakis to undermine his power, but now she wants to share details about the very attack she engineered to strengthen him again for her own benefit. Managing so many moving parts is quite a challenge.
Unfortunately, Desmond Hart finds himself in an awkward position. By the finale of episode two on Dune: Prophecy, Desmond informs Valya that House Corrino and the Emperor no longer require her loyalty, withdrawing her privileges at the palace. Valya suspects him of desiring to replace her, but Desmond claims his intentions are solely for the greater good of the Imperium – to eliminate the Sisterhood.
In annoyance, Valya attempted to manipulate Desmond Hart with her Voice, intending for him to harm himself in the neck. However, astonishingly, Desmond Hart managed to defy Valya Harkonnen’s voice abilities. This was a surprising turn of events, and it didn’t sit well with Valya either. We haven’t uncovered how he resisted her yet, but it seems plausible that he has reached extraordinary levels of human resilience. He tells Valya that his deepest concern is that she’ll speak, and no one will pay heed. And indeed, he was correct.

Where Do We Stand at the End of Dune: Prophecy Episode 2?
It seems that the Emperor and the Imperium are now hostile towards the Sisterhood, as they have been quite manipulative. However, Princess Ynez harbors a strong desire to join their ranks, which could create difficulties in the future. In the meantime, Desmond Hart is leveraging his powers to transform the Emperor into an autocrat. To add to this complexity, Sister Lila may be deceased, but her mother could hold significant influence.
So, that’s where the second installment of the Dune prequel series concludes. Tune in next week as we revisit the events of episode three of Dune: Prophecy. You can catch it every Sunday on Max.
