As a lifelong Marvel fan who has been following the universe since its inception, I can’t contain my excitement hearing Kevin Feige‘s recent updates about the X-Men’s integration into the MCU! Growing up watching the original X-Men films, it felt like a dream to see some of those characters popping up in the MCU, albeit from different timelines. But now, with rumors of a soft reboot and a potential “reset button,” it seems we might finally get our own Earth 616 X-Men!
Disney’s acquisition of Fox allowed them to incorporate mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Lately, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has shared significant news with avid fans of the franchise. Previously, there were whispers that Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars would serve as a “soft restart” for the existing MCU.
The rumor hinted at the possibility that this reboot could serve as a refresh point, ushering in the X-Men from Earth 616 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we know. Although some major X-Men characters from past films have been incorporated into the MCU so far, they typically hail from an alternate timeline.
This list encompasses characters such as Charles Xavier played by Sir Patrick Stewart, Beast portrayed by Kelsey Grammar, Pyro acted by Aaron Stanford, as well as the duo of antiheroes: Deadpool performed by Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine embodied by Hugh Jackman.
During the Disney APAC Content Showcase held in Singapore, the head of Marvel Studios shared their intentions for incorporating the X-Men into their universe.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “In our upcoming films, you’ll notice some familiar faces from the X-Men roster continuing their journey. Following that, the epic tale of Secret Wars will herald a new era for mutants and the X-Men, as hinted by Kevin Feige.
According to a user on what was once known as Twitter, it’s speculated that this event could lead to the formation of a “new Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline” where mutants or X-Men have always coexisted.
In Avengers: Endgame, it isn’t unexpected that something similar may occur, considering Thanos vanished nearly half the universe, followed by Bruce Banner restoring everyone, with Tony Stark undoing previous actions.
In a similar fashion, Secret Wars unites different timeframes, pitting heroes, antiheroes, and even villains against each other on the Battleworld. Some characters may strive to halt the Incursion that merges numerous timelines into one, potentially introducing the X-Men from Fox’s universe (Earth 616) into the mix.
Well, here’s our theory.
Do you recall the scene from The Avengers where Tilda Swinton’s character, The Ancient One, engaged in combat with the Chitauri army during the Battle of New York?
In various occurrences, both major perils like those faced by the Avengers and other lesser-known threats, the mutants or X-Men might have engaged in battles against villains simultaneously. However, the film primarily focused on the team assembled by Nick Fury.
It’s plausible that we and other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe don’t know about their existence due to Charles Xavier frequently erasing memories from others.
Also, if you remember, in She-Hulk a Wolverine was already teased.
