Swedish Director Amir Chamdin to Direct Mafia Film ‘Corleone,’ Filming Scheduled for Spring 2025

As a cinephile who has grown up with the Godfather trilogy as my mafia bible, I must admit that the prospect of a new movie titled Corleone has me both intrigued and slightly apprehensive. On one hand, the title harks back to the legendary saga that defined the genre, and the fact that it’s based on an unbelievable true story piques my curiosity.

It’s widely acknowledged that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy stands out as the pinnacle of mafia-themed films. While other notable works like Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, Scarface, or Heat have made significant contributions to the genre, The Godfather trilogy (particularly the first two installments) is uniquely exceptional; undeniably, it represents the pinnacle of cinematic excellence.

This trilogy lays the foundation for the tale of the Corleone clan, and though it was influenced by Mario Puzo’s novels, the series is renowned for being a trustworthy and authentic portrayal of life within criminal families, as well as the larger mafia world.

It’s been verified that a film with a mafia theme, entitled “Corleone“, is in development. The film, from what we gather, doesn’t appear to be connected to the Corleone family from Puzo’s books. Instead, it seems that the title references the real-life Sicilian town with the same name, which was also a source of inspiration for the family name in Puzo’s novel. Notably, this town is well-known as the birthplace of many prominent Italian mobsters, explaining why the connection is frequently used.

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, the screenplay for the upcoming movie is penned by Sandro Lorino, Rich Ronat, and Nate Adams, with the initial concept originating from Sandro Lorino and Antonio Lorino. The story will unfold in both the United States and Italy, following a man whose enigmatic past leads to turmoil when he finds himself embroiled in a sinister game orchestrated by the first female boss of the notorious Cosa Nostra.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that production for this highly anticipated film is scheduled to kick off in March 2025! Richard Salvatore, renowned for his work on “Stolen Girl,” is spearheading the project alongside Nate Adams of “Vanquish.” This dynamic duo, along with Sandro Lorino and Norbert Krott from Lorino Pictures, will be at the helm.

When Sandro shared this screenplay inspired by an extraordinary real-life event, there was no hesitation in our response. Unlike “The Godfather,” set in Corleone, Sicily, this tale comes directly from Sandro and his father, who hail from the very town itself, giving the narrative a profoundly personal and genuine basis.

Regarding the director, it’s been confirmed that Amir Chamdin, a renowned Swedish filmmaker, will be at the helm of this action-thriller. Primarily known for his accomplishments in the music industry, Chamdin garnered the Best Series award at the 2020 Canneseries market for his work on “Partisan” and is also recognized for his contributions to “Börje.” Here’s a quote from him about the upcoming project: “Corleone” as he puts it.
