Dominic West Says He Enjoyed Experience of People Bowing to Him While Playing Prince Charles in The Crown: ‘If You Have That In Your Life’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of celebrity culture and a deep appreciation for the art of acting, I must say that Dominic West’s journey as Prince Charles III in The Crown was nothing short of captivating. His ability to embody such a complex character, steeped in tradition and intrigue, is truly commendable.

In the final two seasons of Netflix’s The Crown, Dominic West found himself enjoying the attention of people bowing to him as he portrayed Prince Charles III. He recently opened up about his acclaimed role in an interview with People magazine, published on November 14th. This revealing chat offered fans a glimpse into the perspective of one of the show’s key characters regarding the British royal family, which is the central focus of The Crown’s six-season run.

West’s comments were all in good faith, though!

Speaking about his role as Prince Charles, West mentioned to the publication that one of the most enjoyable aspects was being greeted with deep bows by everyone. “It’s quite something when anyone entering the room has to bow to me,” he said, adding humorously. “I imagine if you have that in your daily life, like Charles does, it must give you a unique sense of distinction.” In jest, West also admitted that he attempted to get his children to bow to him upon returning home from work, but they were too clever to comply.

The interviewer inquired about West’s cherished Crown moment following the series finale, and without hesitation, he mentioned the scene where his character marries Olivia Williams’s character Camilla. This particular memory stood out because the show splurged on its production, aiming to convey the grandeur of a royal wedding.

West commented, “We had a complete choir, a full orchestra, along with approximately 40 cherry trees and around 400 extras bowing to us as we walked the aisle. That was quite remarkable.” He added, “I thought, ‘Wow, this production must have cost a fortune.’

When asked about the non-bowing privileges he’d dream about as a royal, West didn’t fail to impress with his response. He mentioned the breathtaking royal residences, the late queen’s exquisite collection of jewels, and Charles’s Aston Martin DB5 among the benefits he’d relish if he were part of the royal family.

In the course of our conversation, I couldn’t help but share my enthusiasm for my role as Detective Jimmy McNulty in The Wire. It seems that fans frequently request me to deliver the iconic line “What the heck did I do?” from the series during our interactions.
