As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fanatic who has spent countless hours immersed in the ever-evolving world of the MCU, I must say that the latest updates from Alex Perez have piqued my interest significantly. The multiverse saga’s conclusion with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ promises to be a grand spectacle, especially considering Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Dr. Doom and the potential appearances of various multiverse variants.
After ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced its fair share of peaks and valleys. The studio increased output, churning out numerous productions annually while exploring diverse narratives such as the multiverse, Kang, Shang-Chi’s magical rings, the Eternals, Celestials, Dane Whitman, and finally, the much-anticipated appearance of mutants.
This summer, Marvel along with Kevin Feige declared their plans to conclude the Multiverse Storyline with a grand finale. This announcement also confirmed Robert Downey Jr.’s reprisal as Dr. Doom and the unveiling of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which aim to weave together all Multiverse narratives since 2020.
Lately, industry expert Alex Perez has offered some intriguing predictions regarding how the storyline may unfold in its final chapters, and hinted at future developments involving Doctor Doom and Kang.
Initially featuring Dr. Doom and Kang, it seems Robert Downey Jr.’s participation will likely be brief. Regarding Kang, there’s a possibility he might reappear, but not necessarily portrayed by Jonathan Majors given the numerous variants that exist.
Gamer Here: Hey Alex! I’ve got a question about Doctor Doom. Is Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of him only going to show up in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, then be replaced by a Sacred Timeline version at some point, similar to the villains in No Way Home? Or will RDJ’s Doom continue to stick around? If so, have there been any updates on what’ll happen to the Kangs in the future?
Alex Perez: I’m afraid I can’t provide an answer on that right now, but I don’t believe Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doom will last much longer. It’s possible that Doom could return with the reset, but I think it might be a different actor taking over the role. For a while, it seems they won’t use Doom in the storyline.
At present, there aren’t many plans for the Kang character due to the strong bond with Jonathan Majors, but it’s not definite that they’ve ruled out his character completely. Keep in mind, numerous versions of characters exist. There’s always a possibility that we might see these characters reappear in different roles at some point in the future, much like Red Skull.
SpiderBryte98: Hey Alex and Lizzie, what’s up? Is Kang still a minor or secondary antagonist in Doomsday and Secret Wars, similar to Molecule Man, or has he been written out completely?, I hope they bring back Majors and consider giving him another chance if he’s not available anymore, or perhaps recast him since I heard that only Majors can play the role under his contract.
Alex Perez: For now, he’s absent. However, there’s a possibility that this character could reappear in some form at a later time. If they decide to continue him as an antagonist or choose the Iron Lad approach by casting a younger actor, they might recast the role instead.
In addition, Alex was questioned about the current status of the Multiverse Saga and future plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe following ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
Manglor: Hi Alex! Given that you mentioned after “Secret Wars” there’s going to be a sort of soft reboot, does this imply characters like The Fantastic Four and The X-Men will be integrated into the primary timeline? If so, will their history be revised to fit the timeline, or will they essentially be newcomers in an unfamiliar world?
Alex Perez: I’m still a bit unclear about how it’ll unfold, but it seems like a fresh take or a new version of the universe, yet not entirely starting from scratch. If I were to simplify what I was told before, it’s as if nothing significant occurred, and they’ll just carry on with their lives, but something significant did indeed happen.
In this revamped version of the Multiverse, certain alterations are being introduced that could lead to significant consequences down the line. It’s quite possible that these events may not be recalled by many, with only a select few such as Doctor Strange and Deadpool potentially recalling them.
Folkito1hunnid: Alex, my bro, it’s great to catch up with these Q&As. I wonder if rushing through the story after the shift might negatively impact the final resolution of the multiverse elements?
Alex Perez: I’m quite fond of the concept of the multiverse, and I’ve been captivated by it for some time now. One of my all-time favorite films is “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths“, as its portrayal of the multiverse left a lasting impression on me, particularly the way Owl Man explained the characteristics of each universe. I find the incorporation of this theme in various projects really appealing.
Initially, when Marvel Studios began to develop it, my enthusiasm was genuine. However, now it seems like the focus is on wrapping things up. The journey has been eventful with its highs and lows, but the priority now is making a grand finale. Consequently, I don’t foresee any hindrance in terms of the storyline. Of course, there will undoubtedly be unrealized concepts or plans, but that’s just part of the process.
Occasionally, things don’t unfold as expected. For instance, did you know that the Inhumans were initially planned to have a more significant role in Avengers: Endgame, when it was first announced as Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. However, their part ended up being reduced to a television series instead. I think we should just let Feige handle things.
