Following the conclusion of “The Penguin”, Colin Farrell garnered widespread acclaim for his interpretation of Oz and is poised to secure a Golden Globe nomination. However, it’s intriguing to consider what the original Penguin, Danny DeVito, thinks about Farrell’s portrayal of the character.
During a recent conversation, Danny DeVito shared insights about his interpretation of the character, Penguin, contrasting it with Colin Farrell’s portrayal. He acknowledged that despite being unique, each actor delivered an impactful performance in their respective ways.
It seems like Colin is putting up quite a challenge for me. Plus, it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. I’ve been catching glimpses of it, and let me tell you, it’s impressively well-done. I haven’t managed to finish the entire thing yet, but what I’ve watched so far is really top-notch.
As a gamer, I get it – the struggle of dedicating countless hours to metamorphose yourself. But unlike you, I’m always recognizable as the Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot, no matter where I go. There’s no option for me to blend into the background or hide my identity. You feel me? It’s like being stuck in a game with no pause button.
Colin has the freedom to visit any place he desires while wearing make-up, and no one would recognize him from his role in “The Penguin.” He appears so different now that even under heavy makeup, it’s challenging for people to identify him as Colin Farrell.
It seems we’re both doing an exceptional job portraying Oswald, each from unique perspectives. Yours, for instance, lacks the Italian mob and gun-related connotations often associated with mafia. Instead, it presents a character who is more of an ambitious individual striving for city control.
In essence, I was a bird unlike any in “The Penguin with Colin,” one who couldn’t fly. This gives my character a unique twist, which is advantageous. Instead of a penguin gangster as in the previous story, you have here a bird character, and it seems to be working out well and performing exceptionally.
