We need Candyman in Dead By Daylight

As a long-time connoisseur of horror movies and a devoted fan of Dead by Daylight, I was truly saddened to hear about the passing of Tony Todd, the legendary actor behind the chilling character of Candyman. From his haunting portrayal of the vengeful spirit in the cult classic series to his iconic roles in Final Destination and Spider-Man 2, Todd’s performances have left an indelible mark on the genre.

I was engaged in Dead By Daylight-related tasks when I learned about the tragic passing of renowned actor Tony Todd. Throughout his extensive career, he accumulated an impressive list of roles, including the Final Destination films and providing the voice for Venom in Spider-Man 2 game. However, to numerous fans, he will always be remembered as Candyman from the now legendary horror series.

In simple terms, Dead By Daylight boasts an unrivaled collection of iconic horror movie antagonists, and Candyman is one of the notable absentees so far. Each hint of a “renowned licensed horror slasher” sparks excitement among fans, but thus far, these teasases have left players feeling let down.

Todd’s acting stands out in numerous ways. It’s hard not to notice that Black characters aren’t typically given the main focus in movies like these. Sadly, many films follow the trope where Black characters are quickly eliminated, such as Deep Blue Sea. However, this series changes the narrative by highlighting Black stories. We even joke about Candyman being an authentic Black horror icon. Just don’t speak his name aloud, and you won’t encounter any issues.

One current game character, The Cenobite, has the ability to be called to a particular spot. It’s simple to envision Candyman functioning in a similar manner. In need of rescuing a survivor from the hook? Simply have another player approach a strategically positioned mirror and summon Candyman there, allowing for the rescue. The creative applications are countless.

It’s clear that many others share my curiosity about this topic. Even with popular titles like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Killer Clowns from Outer Space in the mix, Dead by Daylight (DBD) has reigned supreme in the asymmetrical horror genre for quite some time. I have a feeling that Candyman will eventually join the game, rather than it being a question of if, but when. Along with countless others who are eagerly anticipating this, I’m just waiting to peer into that mirror.
