As a child of Quincy Jones, I feel incredibly blessed to have had such a unique and extraordinary father. Growing up with a nocturnal legend who kept “jazz hours” was nothing short of magical. The memories of waking up in the middle of the night to find him composing with a pen and sheet music are etched into my heart forever.
Rashida Jones writes an emotional remembrance for her deceased father and renowned music producer, Quincy Jones, who sadly passed away at 91 years old on November 3rd.
On Instagram, the actress posted a photo of her younger years alongside her dad and reminisced about cherished times they spent together in a lengthy caption. Jones is one of the seven kids born to the music producer, a shared child with the late actress Peggy Lipton, who tragically passed away in 2019.
In her social media post, Jones initially highlighted the remarkable accomplishments of the producers within the music industry.
She wrote, “My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept “jazz hours” starting in high school and never looked back.” Jones added, “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music).”
After a 28-time Grammy winner succumbed to death at his residence in Los Angeles, his family members and friends by his side, it was announced that the Academy Awards would pay tribute to him posthumously. This recognition will take place during the Governors Awards ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, scheduled for November 17th.
Additionally, his film tunes from The Wiz, The Color Purple, and In Cold Blood will serve as a refresher for the attendees.
Later on in her post, the actress expressed, “He’d never send me back to sleep. Instead, he’d smile and draw me close as he carried on with his work. I felt completely secure in his arms; nowhere else in the world felt safer.
I’ll tell you this from my perspective as a devoted fan: He towered above many, not just in stature but in influence and talent. A beacon, a game-changer, and an extraordinary mind – these words barely scratch the surface when describing Quincy Jones. Over the course of his illustrious career in the music industry, spanning several decades, he is renowned for creating a trilogy of iconic albums in collaboration with Michael Jackson.
In wrapping up her tribute, the actress penned, “He always managed to make those he encountered feel cherished and recognized. This is the lasting impression he leaves behind.” Quincy Jones is mourned by his seven offspring.
