‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel Casts Four New Stars

As a diehard fan who has lived through countless sleepovers watching horror films and counting down the days to each new release of the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming sequel! With Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. potentially reprising their iconic roles, it’s like being transported back to the nineties all over again.

It’s no surprise that another installment of the acclaimed horror series “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is on its way, given its reputation. In early 2023, it was officially confirmed that a new sequel for this popular franchise is being developed, and there are discussions underway regarding the potential return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to their original characters.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Leah McKendrick collaborated on the idea for a movie, and it was decided that Robinson would direct while McKendrick would write the script. Neal H. Moritz will serve as producer. The movie is anticipated to share some similarities with the 2022 film “Scream,” featuring original characters in a plot that includes a younger cast. The release date for this film has been scheduled for July 18, 2025.

The latest movie has added Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette to its cast. Furthermore, Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King are also set to star in this production. Freddie Prinze Jr. is confirmed for a return from the previous films, while Jennifer Love Hewitt is in discussions to join him.

The movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” released in 1997 and directed by Jim Gillespie, was a screenplay by Kevin Williamson (known for “Scream”) adapted from Lois Duncan’s novel. This film spawned sequels in 1998 and 2006, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. appearing only in the first sequel. A third installment, titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” was a direct-to-video production featuring a new cast.
