Barry Keoghan-Led ‘Joker’ Series Rumored to Be in Development at Max, Following the success of ‘The Penguin’

As a die-hard fan who’s been following the Batman universe since its inception, I must admit that the latest developments have me more excited than a bat-signal on a stormy Gotham City night! The success of “The Penguin” series has set the bar high for any potential spinoffs, and the rumors about Barry Keoghan’s Joker are music to my ears.

Matt Reeves’ “Batman Criminal Masterpiece” is expanding further, as a new chapter has been released. This series revolves around the ascension of Oz Cobblepot to power following the demise of Carmine Falcone, an event depicted in “The Batman: Part I“.

Initially, some fans had reservations regarding The Penguin‘s solo series. However, those doubts swiftly vanished once the first episode was broadcasted.

Enthusiasts swiftly lauded almost every element of “The Penguin,” including its gritty, realistic backdrop and exceptional acting by Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. It appears that we could soon witness another offshoot with a comparable vibe.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve picked up some intriguing whispers from the grapevine. It seems HBO might be cooking something fresh, a spinoff centered around Barry Keoghan’s enigmatic Joker character, who made a brief appearance in The Batman: Part I. Now, this is all hearsay for now, but Matt Reeves and Lauren LeFranc have hinted that we could expect more of these offshoots. Exciting times ahead, if it’s true!

In the film The Batman (2022), a character originally referred to as “Unseen Arkham Prisoner” was subsequently revealed by director Matt Reeves to actually be the Joker.

On March 24, 2022, exactly three weeks following the initial release of the movie, Warner Bros. shared a cut scene starring Barry Keoghan as the Joker and Robert Pattinson as Batman. This additional scene was warmly appreciated by the film’s enthusiasts.

A little over a year back, Collider shared that I might be returning as the Joker for the upcoming sequel, but the studio’s still keeping quiet on it. More recently, Variety asked me directly about my part in the movie. I didn’t exactly say yes, but neither did I deny it. So, we’ll just have to wait and see!

There’s been talk among enthusiasts that Keoghan’s portrayal of the Joker might have a reduced presence in the upcoming sequel. However, there’s also speculation that he could take on a more significant role in The Batman Part 3 if it gets made.

“There we go!” I can’t say much. The camera is looking right at me. We’ll see where that goes. Again, it was an incredible experience … and yeah, I can’t say.

On more than one occasion, it appears the actor has hinted at his potential comeback. As far back as half a year ago, Keoghan was ambiguous about the speculations when speaking to Vanity Fair – neither affirming nor refuting them. Considering the enigma surrounding this matter, it seems reasonable to assume he might reappear, potentially in a brief role.

Keoghan did confirm that it would be exciting to revisit the universe:

As a devotee, I must admit I’m at a loss for words regarding that matter, but isn’t it thrilling to imagine The Joker resurfacing once more?
