As a long-time Marvel fan who has seen my fair share of twists and turns, I must admit that the potential revelation of Rio Vidal as Agatha’s son’s father has me intrigued. It’s not every day we get to see such an unexpected connection in the MCU.
Among the captivating aspects of the series “Agatha All Along“, one that particularly sparked intrigue was the enigma surrounding Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch. Fan speculation ran rampant with numerous hypotheses, such as Agatha giving up her son for the Darkhold or Mephisto being his biological father.
However, the true story of Nicholas was less complex. Agatha had a newborn son, destined either to perish shortly after birth or live a brief life. In order to keep him alive, she struck a bargain with Death itself, offering countless lives in return for extended time with her precious child.
In Agatha’s own words, sometimes small boys can unexpectedly lose their lives. Nicholas came to terms with the price of his existence and opted against sacrificing a coven of witches to preserve it. He vowed to his mother they would try again tomorrow, but he ended up falling asleep and passed on. To this day, Agatha harbors resentment towards Rio for taking him away from her, and she carries the guilt of not being able to save him.
One mystery that the show never revealed was the identity of Nicholas’ father. Recently, showrunner Jac Schaeffer addressed this and hinted at something that will excite Agathario shippers.
During a recent chat, showrunner Jac Schaeffer subtly suggested in an interview that Rio Vidal could potentially be the father of Agatha’s baby. It seems they had this possibility in mind when choosing him for the role.
She expressed surprise at how passionate fans, or “shippers,” have become about this theory. Schaeffer also shared her hope that future MCU projects will explore more of the backstory between Agatha and Rio, especially given the tragic nature of their relationship and the fact that Agatha didn’t need a man to conceive a witch’s child.
When it comes to selecting actors during production, there have been instances where we’d chuckle and remark, “Does this actor resemble Rio? Does this actress remind us of Aubrey Plaza?” It’s certainly not a secret that fans and viewers are catching onto our subconscious associations.
I wasn’t expecting such intense passion from the shippers. You just never know how things will be received or how much interest they’ll generate. The level of interest is truly surprising to me. I’m hoping that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ll get a deeper look into Agatha and Rio’s past.

Previously, Schaeffer suggested Rio as a potential father for Agatha’s baby. In an earlier discussion, the character of Lady Death was hinted at as the possible father, but the showrunner explained that the identity of the father remained unclear because it didn’t impact the plot, and even she doesn’t know who it is herself.
So who is Nicky’s father?
That’s a story for another day, but ultimately for me, it’s irrelevant in this story.
Do you know who it is?
To put it simply, the truth is, I might have an answer to your question, but it’s not something addressed within the scope of this topic at hand. Therefore, it could make a fascinating tale for another occasion, which may or may not be under my direct authority.
You do have Agatha saying “I made you from scratch” to Nicky right after he’s born, which could mean so many things, like he was conjured or he’s an immaculate conception. Where did that line come from?
In the creative process, I originated the line, and my co-writer Laura Donney was enamored with it to the point where she remarked, “It seems as if I could have written this,” but she phrased it charmingly as, “it embodies our collaboration.” It’s my cherished line in the production because I appreciate the enigma it presents, inviting diverse interpretations. I embrace these varying perspectives.
In my view, it’s more about the creative aspect of Agatha rather than her ability to create physical objects. Unlike characters such as Billy and Wanda who possess chaos magic, Agatha does not have a power set focused on creation. However, something she has produced, which is unique to her, doesn’t involve deception or manipulation. This self-made creation carries an element of purity and beauty for Agatha that comes from the act of creating itself.
