‘Agatha All Along’ Showrunner Revealed Plans for Teddy Altman/Hulkling Appearance—and Why It Didn’t Happen

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the Marvel Universe, I must say that the revelation about Billy Maximoff’s boyfriend Eddie not being Hulkling came as a bit of a shockwave, much like when Loki decided to switch sides.

In a fresh turn for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s mystical and supernatural realm, particularly in relation to the Scarlet Witch, Agatha All Along introduced significant characters. Among these pivotal figures is William Maximoff, more famously recognized as Wiccan.

In the world of Marvel Comics, Wiccan is a prominent figure who wields magic and has played significant roles in numerous major story arcs. Comic enthusiasts are familiar with Wiccan, who is openly gay and romantically involved with another character named Teddy Altman, or Hulkling, as he’s also known.

In the series, Billy is found to have a boyfriend named Eddie, yet Eddie’s appearances are quite limited. Fans initially assumed that Billy’s boyfriend in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be Hulkling, but according to Agatha All Along‘s showrunner, Jac Schaeffer, there’s another tale at play.

Initially, it was intended for Teddy Altman, who goes by the name Hulkling, to be revealed as Billy’s romantic partner, according to Schaeffer’s explanation.

Initially, the character Hulkling was meant to be called Teddy, inspired by comics characters. However, Marvel decided against showcasing his Kree/Skrull identity in this series. Instead, they opted for the name Eddie as a homage to someone significant to the writing team. Schaeffer clarified that this decision wasn’t made to deceive fans but rather as a way to pay tribute to an important figure in their lives.

Initially, discussions took place regarding Hulkling’s character. The original name given to him was Teddy, as we were examining the artwork and considering this choice. This decision made by Marvel was to ensure he wouldn’t portray Hulkling in our series.

In our series, you won’t find him as Hulkling, instead we chose Eddie, as his name holds significance for our writing team, honoring someone close to us. This wasn’t intended as a tease for the fans, but rather a heartfelt tribute to an important figure in our lives.

In the comic books, Hulkling significantly influences Wiccan’s narrative, implying that he may one day appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Given this connection and the fact that Kree storylines could resurface with the ongoing Nova project development, it seems likely that Hulkling will be introduced to the MCU at some point.

Given that Schaeffer has suggested a future for Billy in the MCU, it’s likely we’ll see numerous opportunities for him to encounter Hulkling. For now, Eddie might have played a role in Billy’s storyline, but there’s still the possibility that he could be unveiled as the hybrid character later on.
