‘I Had To Make The Decision…’: Megan Thee Stallion Reflects On The Heartbreak Of Losing Her Mother To Brain Tumor In New Documentary

As a lifestyle expert, I find Megan Thee Stallion to be a true inspiration. Her resilience and strength in the face of adversity are nothing short of remarkable. Losing a parent is an unimaginable pain that most of us can only begin to fathom, yet Megan has not let it break her spirit. Instead, she has used it as fuel to propel herself forward, continuing to shine brightly on the stage and in our hearts.

When Megan Thee Stallion chose to express her personal journey in her own terms, she felt it necessary to disclose the sorrow she endured upon losing her mother due to a brain tumor. In her latest Prime Video documentary, the rapper, aged 29, reflects on the painful choice she had to make when deciding to alleviate her mother from worldly suffering by turning off life support.

In her documentary, Megan states, “The doctors needed to induce a coma for her. She was technically brain dead.” Megan continued, “I chose to stay by her side every day. I slept in the hospital, constantly hoping that she might recover from this ordeal.

Unfortunately, the Mamushi singer’s mother could not recover.

Upon understanding that she wasn’t returning, I found myself uttering, “Oh, how unfortunate, I can’t keep her in this state.” I knew she wouldn’t have wished to remain as such. Consequently, I was faced with the difficult choice of terminating the situation, and she departed the next day.

In 2019, Megan endured significant hardship, yet she stepped back onto the stage only three weeks later. She felt certain that her mother wouldn’t have preferred her to linger in sorrow at home or miss work for an extended period. The Grammy-winning artist explains this in a documentary, stating that at the time, she didn’t wish to cancel her performances and neither would her mother. From the stage, Megan also described her mom as her most ardent supporter.

Despite this, the loss of her last remaining parent, who passed away while Megan was in ninth grade, proved to be a substantial hurdle for her. In the documentary, she describes feeling adrift and lacking self-assurance following the loss of her main pillar of support.

At the premiere of the documentary in Los Angeles on October 30th, Megan Thee Stallion emotionally honored her mother, who was a rapper known as Holly-Wood. Addressing the audience, she declared, “I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Holly Thomas.” She then added affectionately, “Mommy, I love you.
