As a seasoned gamer with a heart for queer cinema, I eagerly await the release of Luca Guadagnino’s latest masterpiece, “Queer.” The first trailer has left me captivated and yearning for more. If you’ve ever played the game of love in the ’80s or danced to a soft ’90s power ballad, you’ll understand the poignant longing depicted in this film.
The term “Queer” has historically been used as a derogatory slur, but some individuals have reclaimed it as their personal identity. In contemporary times, “Queer” is also the title of Luca Guadagnino’s latest film. For quite some time, we’ve been aware that A24 was working on a movie called “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, and now we can finally watch its first trailer. True to Guadagnino’s aesthetic, it is sensuous, dreamlike, and, indeed, somewhat queer in nature. Check out the first trailer for “Queer” below.
Queer‘s Romantic Trailer, starring Daniel Craig, and Synopsis
We love an esoteric queer movie. We greatly enjoyed A24’s Love Lies Bleeding when it came out in March. And we bet we’ll have a great time with Queer. If Love Lies Bleeding felt like a hard-hitting ’80s power ballad, Queer offers something a little softer. There’s a great sensation of loneliness in Queer‘s trailer, but also a lot of hope. And the synopsis for Queer helps us make a little bit more sense out of what we’re seeing in our first look at the Luca Guadagnino film. As a note, Queer is based on the novel by William S. Burroughs.
Queer‘s synopsis reads as follows, check it out as you watch the trailer:
1950. William Lee, an American living in Mexico City, spends most of his days by himself, with only occasional interactions with fellow Americans. His chance meeting with Eugene Allerton, a newcomer and former soldier, offers him the possibility, for the first time, of forming a deep connection with someone else.
The movie’s release announcement highlights that “Daniel Craig delivers a heartfelt and captivating performance” in the film, which is evident in the trailer. This role in “Queer” appears to represent a significant step in Craig’s career, as he transitions from Bond to Benoit Blanc (and even dancing for Belvedere Vodka ads) to portraying William Lee in this movie. We applaud and stand with him on this exciting new path.
Notably showcased in the trailer for Queer is Drew Starkey, as well as their romantic relationship with another male character. We’re thrilled to witness it. Joining them in the cast of Queer are Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, and Omar Apollo.
When Does Luca Guadagnino’s Queer Release in Theaters?
Look forward to the cinema release of Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” on November 27th. Anticipation builds as we watch Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey’s relationship unfold on screen, hoping for a beautiful love story – free from any tragic end.
