As a lifelong Marvel fan who’s seen more comic books than I can count and spent countless hours debating the finer points of character design with fellow enthusiasts, I must say that the abandoned Wolverine concept art for Deadpool & Wolverine truly hits close to home.
Out of the three big comic book movies set for release this year, only Deadpool & Wolverine managed to meet expectations, leaving both fans and critics pleased with the outcome, making it the second highest-grossing film of the year. Conversely, the sequel to Joker fell short, while Venom 3 is expected to make money and garner audience sympathy, yet has received negative reviews from critics.
Although it initially premiered during the summer season, Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be screened in various cinemas globally, giving fans a chance to watch it on the big screen. Simultaneously, home versions of the movie have been made available, allowing viewers multiple options for enjoying this film. However, there are other ways to experience the movie as well.
To clarify, the highly anticipated official art book for the film is now available, packed with concept art, rough drafts, and hidden gems from the movie’s production process. Among these hidden treasures, there’s an early design of Wolverine that we’re excited to share with you today.
In case you’ve got it fresh in your mind, the Marvel film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, often recalled as a crossover, featured several variations of various Marvel characters, some more prominent than others. It was like a treat for fans, a special something we’ve discussed at length – those Easter Eggs. However, despite the abundance of Easter Eggs, not all that were initially planned ended up in the final cut of the movie.
There are many concepts that were initially considered or proposed, some of which we’ve discussed earlier, but the publication of the official Deadpool & Wolverine art book inspired artist Andy Park to disclose an extra unused version of Wolverine. This design was almost included in the movie, but ultimately discarded. Here’s a look at it:

The long-awaited Art of Deadpool and Wolverine has been released! I contributed more Wolverine variant designs for the movie, one of which is inspired by an Uncanny X-Men comic book issue that I particularly admire – Issue # 268 by Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Chris Clarke Mountain.
Oh, wouldn’t it be fantastic to envision Hugh Jackman in various interpretations of Wolverine across the annals of comic book lore? A tribute to both the actor and the creative minds behind these iconic stories. 🤗
If you haven’t encountered the cowboy/Red Dead Redemption spin of Wolverine before, he made his debut in Uncanny X-Men #268 – an issue notable for introducing the first-ever encounter between Wolverine and Captain America. Unfortunately, this intriguing storyline didn’t get further development.
