Keith Morrison, Perry’s stepfather and host of Dateline, has expressed his worries regarding the ongoing government investigation, revealing crucial details about the conditions surrounding Perry’s death on October 28, 2023.

In a tragic turn of events, Perry, famously recognized for portraying Chandler Bing on Friends, passed away due to complications related to ketamine usage. An investigation has subsequently led to accusations against five individuals believed to have provided the actor with this drug, including his personal assistant and two medical professionals.

Morrison shared optimism that the results might strongly convey a warning to those facilitating drug abuse, especially for susceptible people. As Morrison explained to PEOPLE, it’s hard not to feel enraged.

“I hope this serves notice to anybody who was in a position to be an enabler: you better not do it. Because the price, if you do, may be very high indeed.” He suggested that Perry’s fame played a role in the attention the case has received, potentially encouraging authorities to pursue accountability.

Five people are under investigation for their involvement in Perry’s demise, each facing significant accusations. Among those accused are Kenneth Iwamasa, who was Perry’s assistant, doctors Mark Chavez and Salvador Plasencia, acquaintance Erik Fleming, and Jasveen Sangha, often referred to as “The Ketamine Queen.” The authorities claim that Fleming facilitated the purchase of ketamine from Sangha for Perry.

Morrison expressed his expectation that the investigation would lead to some measure of responsibility being established. He also admitted that Perry might have erroneously believed ketamine to be a safer alternative to other substances, explaining how Perry felt “that the drug he was using wasn’t addictive, wouldn’t harm him. Unfortunately, it did.

Suzanne Morrison, Perry’s mother, expressed her joy that those responsible have been made to face consequences for their actions. She also mentioned that she and Perry feel optimistic that his tragic death might act as a cautionary tale about the risks associated with enablers and the perils of drug abuse.

For several years, Perry’s family has faced significant challenges due to his battles with addiction. Morrison recounts numerous instances where Perry’s life was at risk because of issues stemming from drug misuse.

Morrison shared with PEOPLE that for a long time, we’ve had to prepare and arm ourselves multiple times, due to the fear that Perry might not make it through the night, as doctors have warned us.

Perry himself frequently hinted at his hardships and the delicate state of his wellbeing. Morrison recalls Perry mentioning, “If I pass away unexpectedly, you might be taken aback, but you likely won’t be taken by surprise.” The family’s sorrow has been intensified by this lingering concern, yet they are now directing their efforts towards commemorating his life in a significant manner.
