As a die-hard fan of the Jumanji franchise since I first watched the 1995 classic, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming third installment! With the original cast returning and the director at the helm once more, it promises to be another thrilling adventure in the jungle. The fact that they’re managing to coordinate such a stacked cast is nothing short of miraculous, much like how the characters managed to survive countless challenges in the game itself!
In 2026, over the holiday season, we can expect a third installment of the popular film Jumanji. Sony Pictures has officially confirmed that this new movie, titled Jumanji 3, is set to hit theaters on December 6. The original cast and director from the previous films, Jake Kasdan, will be reprising their roles for this upcoming adventure.
The cast for the upcoming film “Jumanji 3” is just as impressive as the last two movies. However, having a strong cast doesn’t automatically make the movie successful. Nonetheless, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black will once again take on their characters of Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, and Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon respectively.
In the upcoming movie, Johnson, Kasdan, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Matt Tolmach will once again take on producer roles, similar to their work on the second installment, “Jumanji: The Next Level”. This new film will be available for viewing in both IMAX and high-end premium formats.
The modern-day Jumanji film series, known for its blockbuster hits, is rooted in the 1995 movie of the same title, which was itself inspired by a children’s book from 1981. The initial Jumanji movie had a spin-off titled Zathura in 2005. Fast forward to 2017, the series reemerged with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, raking in an impressive $950 million at box offices worldwide. Its sequel followed suit, grossing over $800 million two years later. If you’re curious as to why there’s a Jumanji 3, that’s because of its massive success in previous installments.
Given the numerous well-known actors in the principal roles, coordinating their schedules for the start of filming proved challenging, according to Gillan.
According to Gillan, it seems challenging to coordinate everyone’s calendars, but the only information received so far is that we will be undertaking this at some stage. Despite this uncertainty, everyone is incredibly excited about it because we enjoy working on these films, and the question now is simply when.
Approximately two years and a few months remain until the release of “Jumanji 3”. Plenty of time for you to familiarize yourself with the entire Jumanji series. You can watch the original “Jumanji” and its sequel, “Zathura: A Space Adventure”, on Netflix. The more recent instalments of “Jumanji” are available for streaming on Hulu.
