Tom Hardy and Director Kelly Marcel Always Planned for the ‘Venom’ Trilogy to Conclude After Three Films

As a long-time Venom fan, I have to say that I am genuinely excited for Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel’s final chapter with this iconic character – Venom: The Last Dance. Having been part of the journey since its inception, I can appreciate the passion and dedication that these two talented individuals have put into this series over the past seven years.

As a gamer, I’m all geared up for Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel to wrap up their epic journey with Venom. In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE before the release of Venom: The Last Dance, these talented folks shared that they had envisioned the series finale since day one.

From the start, we were certain that the narrative would unfold as a trilogy.

In the final movie, both Marcel and Hardy contributed to the storyline, but it was Marcel who solely penned all three films. Interestingly, for the last film, Hardy not only helped with the script but also made her debut as a director for the very first time.

Sony posed the question, and I responded, ‘Sure thing, let’s proceed. With our past collaborations on the initial films in mind, we were aware that this project would be an exciting ride as well as a deeply emotional experience.’

For nearly seven years, Tom and I have been collaborating on this project, and we’ve always aimed to see it through. The moment seemed ripe for us to take a more significant role, and this film presented the perfect opportunity.

In a touching Instagram message posted in November 2023, Tom Hardy – a key player in the Venom franchise – publicly thanked his team, as filming for the third movie restarted after the SAG-AFTRA strikes had ended.

The trip has been quite an extended one, yet it remains enjoyable every step of the way. Although work may be challenging at times, it seems less daunting when you’re passionate about your tasks and have engaging content to work with.

He praised Marcel as his “director, writing partner, and dear friend.”

Seeing you in charge of this one makes me so proud. You’ve got amazing instincts. Trust them.

Hardy revealed that his sixteen-year-old son, Louis, has been an ongoing critic of his work in the Venom trilogy, providing feedback since he was around seven or eight years old.

Children view comic book characters uniquely due to their deep emotional connection with them. Instead of considering external factors or self-imposed limitations, they express their thoughts freely, which keeps their perspective clear and focused. On the other hand, as an adult, I sometimes get bogged down by overanalyzing what others may expect or what I should or shouldn’t say, which can blur my own perception.

In “Venom: The Last Dance”, Eddie and Venom find themselves in a tight spot, having to make tough decisions that seem to signal the conclusion of their shared tale. The storyline seems to imply a sense of finality: “Faced with encroaching threats from both sides, Eddie and Venom are compelled to make a choice that will mark the end of their joint journey.

Fans have longed for a meeting between Venom and Spider-Man, but so far, it hasn’t come true. Nevertheless, when asked which Spider-Man character they’d prefer to bring into the Venom world, neither Hardy nor Marcel hesitated in their response.

Tom Holland,” Marcel replied, with Hardy in full agreement.

Tom Holland is hands-down the greatest Spider-Man, according to Hardy. He even expressed interest in facing off against Nicholas Hammond from the 70’s series. ‘He had only one web made of string, no digital enhancements,’ Hardy said, ‘I’d love to test my skills against him!’

Worldwide screenings are currently featuring “Venom: The Final Dance,” which has opened to a domestic gross of $52 million and is expected to exceed an international total of $180 million by the weekend’s end.

At the moment, the movie has an IMDb rating of 6.2, as well as a 36% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while audience ratings on the same platform are more favorable at 79%.
