As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinema history and an appreciation for iconic wardrobes, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia upon reading about Billy Crystal’s search for his classic off-white sweater from When Harry Met Sally. With over three decades in the industry, I’ve come to realize that the costumes we wear on screen often become more than just clothing; they become symbols of our characters and, at times, even a part of our own identity.
Billy Crystal reminisces about his memorable cream-colored sweater worn in When Harry Met Sally. In an interview with People Magazine, the actor shared that he retained a few garments from his character’s wardrobe in the 1989 movie.
It turns out that Crystal is uncertain whether he misplaced or unintentionally gave away his cherished classic sweater. He’s unsure about it, but he suggested that the missing item might now be in the possession of UCLA’s theater costume department.
During an interview with the entertainment portal, Analyze This’s actor was questioned about whether he still possessed the costumes from his on-screen characters. Crystal humorously answered, “I have quite a collection. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a fashion enthusiast. The only one I don’t own is that sweater, and I’ve had it for years—the one from When Harry Met Sally—the authentic one.
The actor shared some insights, mentioning, “I’m convinced the prop probably ended up at UCLA’s drama department, given all the costumes they have. I think it might be there. It’s been puzzling me ever since I’ve noticed people—like those you see on social media—wearing that scene’s signature sweater. If only I had that sweater too.
In summary, the actor requested that UCLA’s theater department search their wardrobe collection for a specific sweater. If found, they were asked to graciously send it back to him.
Currently, Crystal is back on our screens with his latest venture titled “Before”, which can be found streaming on Apple TV+. In this upcoming 10-episode series, the talented actor will both star in and produce the show. Joining him are esteemed actors Judith Light and Rosie Perez. Previously known for his role in The Princess Bride, Crystal is set to captivate audiences once again with this new project.
In terms of the storyline, the series focuses on Eli, a child psychologist who’s been widowed lately. Not long after, he crosses paths with a peculiar boy named Noah, whose enigmatic link to Eli’s past becomes apparent. The narrative continues, “As Eli tries to aid Noah, their intriguing connection intensifies.
On Apple TV+, you can catch up with the series starting from now, as fresh episodes are released every Friday. The season finale will be on December 20th.
