‘I’ve Honestly Moved Past It’: James Franco Talks About Settling Past Sexual Misconduct Suit As He Prepares For The Release Of Hey Joe

James Franco is acknowledging his past and choosing to progress in life. On October 25th, prior to the premiere of his film Hey Joe at the Rome Film Festival, he spoke with Variety about his experiences. In this interview, he discussed a lawsuit that was resolved in 2021 following allegations of sexually inappropriate conduct by five women, four of whom were his acting students.

According to People, Franco agreed to pay $2.235 million in settlement at the time.

He said to Variety, “It hurts to be told I’m wrong,” but in a sense, that’s exactly what I required to change my course.

Following a break, first prompted by his legal case and later due to the pandemic, Franco expressed that he has reevaluated his priorities and aims to satisfy himself in new ways now.

Franco admitted that he ultimately felt thankful for the break since it allowed him an opportunity to tackle personal tasks and make the necessary adjustments. He pointed out that due to this self-work, he can now invest himself emotionally into the project instead of merely fulfilling a role.

This year saw the unveiling of his latest movie amidst recent controversies, titled “The Price of Money: A Largo Winch Adventure,” which is a French thriller. Though it premiered for French viewers in July, its American debut is yet to happen.

The actor from Rise of the Planet of the Apes also discussed his transition from a prominent figure in Hollywood to being shunned. “Well, it’s just how things are,” he stated casually. “I’ve honestly moved beyond it. It was handled, and I had the chance to evolve. So that’s it; it’s behind me. I mean, I’ve worked in the U.S. as well, so I’m simply focusing on moving forward.

Despite the fact that Franco’s accusations didn’t just bring him problems in his career, but also significantly affected his personal life, particularly his long-standing friendship with Seth Rogen, his valued collaborator for two decades.

According to Franco’s interview with Variety, there’s no communication between him and Rogen now, and it isn’t because Franco hasn’t made efforts to reach out.

Hey Joe, directed by Claudio Giovannesi, will receive a theatrical release in Italy on November 28.
