As a seasoned lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood happenings and a heart full of nostalgia, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of another Scream film! The return of Patrick Dempsey as Mark Kincaid, a character he brought to life in the franchise’s third installment, is certainly a welcome addition.
There’s exciting news for fans of the hit horror series Scream! On a recent episode of The Today Show (October 24), original cast member Patrick Dempsey hinted at the possibility of returning to play his character, Mark Kincaid, in future installments. When asked about it, he replied, “I’m just waiting for the script.
There’s been talk about it, but I haven’t seen any developments yet, so we’ll wait and see what transpires. It’s always beneficial to have a job,” he noted. His character, introduced in the third installment of the franchise as a Los Angeles detective investigating Cotton Weary’s murders (portrayed by Liev Schreiber), hasn’t returned for the hit movie sequel yet.
Years down the line, it’s been announced that he will feature in the seventh edition of Scream, which is being directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4. It’s also speculated that franchise veteran Courteney Cox may reprise her role for Scream 7. In a past conversation with Variety, the actress from Friends disclosed that she hasn’t officially agreed to the film yet. However, she mentioned that she keeps abreast of the developments. She admitted that the team is constantly revising the material. “I’m not in the dark about what’s happening,” she said.
In 2023, the latest Scream movie unfolds with four individuals who survived the Ghostface killings making a fresh start in New York City. However, their peaceful lives are disrupted when an aggressive slasher reemerges, launching a deadly spree.
Despite being in its initial phases, the confirmation of David Arquette’s return suggests that Scream 7 might shift its narrative away from the characters Sam and Tara Carpenter, who are portrayed by actresses Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
Beyond that, Barrera was dismissed from the company due to her backing of the Palestinian movement and her criticism towards Israel’s actions during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. On the other hand, Ortega left the production, mentioning scheduling issues as the reason. The studio has scheduled Scream 7 for a cinema release on February 27, 2026.
