John Wick Anime Film in Development: The Story Behind His ‘Impossible Task’ to Be Revealed

As a dedicated follower of the John Wick franchise, I must say that the news of a prequel film and other upcoming projects has sent my adrenaline soaring! Having grown up watching Keanu Reaves’ action-packed performances, it’s thrilling to see the John Wick universe expand in such exciting ways.

Chad Stahelski, one of the creators of John Wick, has announced that a prequel movie for the series is currently being developed and could be released soon. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski mentioned there are several projects in the pipeline for the John Wick franchise, such as a spinoff, a TV show, and even an anime film.

Furthermore, he discussed his plans for ensuring quality across the John Wick series and revealed that he typically reaches out to Keanu Reeves first, given his significant role in the franchise. This step is taken to uphold the standard of the John Wick films.

He mentioned that there are three upcoming projects: an anime adaptation, a television series, and a fresh spin-off. As a result, Keanu and I remain busy with these endeavors, and we’re keen to maintain the essence that defines John Wick as John Wick, rather than becoming too large and losing sight of it.

Beyond the unveiling of a prequel film, specifics about the production crew and those involved in this project remain undisclosed. However, it’s been confirmed that they will delve into John Wick’s past and the infamous ‘Impossible Task‘ which propelled him to abandon his assassin lifestyle. A long-standing mystery within the series is the motivation behind John Wick returning to a life of crime. Yet, this intrigue will soon be put to rest as the creators are now set to disclose this secret.

Keanu Reeves plays the role of John Wick, a former assassin who’s been living peacefully until being dragged back into the criminal underworld seeking vengeance. As of now, the action-packed series consists of four installments: John Wick (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). Additionally, there’s a spin-off titled The Continental set to premiere in 2023, along with another film called Ballerina, scheduled for release on June 6, 2025.

It would definitely be interesting to see Keanu Reaves return as John Wick in the anime film, and apart from he is also starring as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
