As a die-hard fan of the Venom series, I must admit that the anticipation for Venom: The Last Dance has been palpable. Having grown up with these symbiotic tales, I’ve seen Venom evolve from a terrifying monster to an unlikely anti-hero, and I can’t wait to see how this final chapter unfolds.
In a short while, “Venom: The Last Dance” will be available globally. This new movie is a follow-up to “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” which premiered in 2021, and it’s the fifth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Moreover, it serves as the concluding part of the Venom trilogy.
The movie, scripted and helmed by Kelly Marcel, stars Tom Hardy returning in the dual roles of Eddie Brock and Venom. This action-packed film also boasts an impressive cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham.
The storyline revolves around Brock and Venom, navigating dangers from their individual realms – with Knull being suggested for the film, even though the director clarified he won’t be the primary antagonist. Although Knull might appear in future SSU (Sony’s Spider-Man Universe) projects or MCU films, this movie signifies the conclusion of Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock as Venom.
Early social media responses from screenings show a mix of opinions, but overall, there’s a leaning towards positive reviews. The movie might not be overtly complex, but it seems to deliver an enjoyable experience, which is exactly what many enthusiasts anticipate.
Conversely, initial estimates for the opening weekend of Venom: The Last Dance suggest they might be less than ideal, with projections of a debut of around $65 million as reported by Variety.
2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage had significantly higher opening figures compared to the current one – $80 million for the former and $90 million for the latter; these numbers set a record during the pandemic era. The current figure is noticeably lower than those.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that this movie is projected to rake in an extra $85 million worldwide, bumping up its grand total to a cool $150 million. Given it cost around $120 million to produce (not even counting marketing expenses), the film needs a powerful debut to cover its costs and hopefully turn a profit.
If the film “Venom 3” doesn’t do well at the box office, it might mirror the journey of “Madame Web,” Sony’s recent superhero movie that suffered poor box office returns yet found substantial success on Netflix.
