As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the entertainment industry, I have to say that I find the recent controversy surrounding Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s Wicked co-star collaboration quite intriguing. It seems that we are living in an era where technology has become both a blessing and a curse.
Cynthia Erivo has received backing from her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande following a recent controversy. The issue started when Erivo criticized a popular fan-made AI poster for her upcoming film Wicked. Some people focused on Erivo, while others felt her response was excessive. However, it’s clear that Grande is on Erivo’s side in this situation!
On October 19, during an interview with Variety, Grande expressed her thoughts about the controversy surrounding the altered poster that concealed Erivo’s face using AI. She said, “I think it’s quite complex because I sometimes find AI to be conflicting and bothersome, but I believe we’re just going through a very big adjustment period.
“She stated that this is something truly immense, promising fun times and creative edits from the fans. When inquired about potential misuse of AI, the artist concurred. Regarding her co-star’s reaction, Grande shared affection and admiration for her viewpoints. ‘I adore her so much. It’s just a challenging time of readjustment,’ she clarified.
On Wednesday, October 16, the actress from Bad Times at the El Royale criticized an AI-generated poster of Wicked that aimed to resemble the movie’s poster and the original Broadway show’s poster. In the original poster, Cynthia Erivo’s character, Elphaba, had her face concealed by the shadow of her hat.
She shared a fan-created poster on her Instagram stories, and commented that it was the most outrageous and disrespectful thing she had ever seen. The actress drew a parallel between this poster and offensive memes about the movie, where her character asks another, “Is your skin green,” referring to Elphaba’s green complexion in Wicked.
She asserted that none of it is amusing or adorable; rather, it diminishes her, and us as well. As for Erivo, she opted to confront the camera directly, expressing her character’s feelings through her eyes instead of averting them. In her following narrative, she displayed the original poster and commented, “Let me make this clear to refresh your memory and purify your senses.
Wicked will be released in theaters on November 22.
