Hi, welcome to Ask Spling! Something that really frustrates me about filmmaking is when scripts aren’t carefully developed. It seems like some filmmakers rush the writing process – they just want to get a script done, start filming, and move on to production without taking the time to create a strong foundation.
Developing the script is incredibly important, and it’s something people don’t always realize. Making a film can actually take years – often a decade – and that process involves extensive script work, planning, and securing funding.
As a film lover, I truly believe the best part of making a movie is the initial creative work. It’s up to us, as writers, to build characters people connect with, craft a story that feels important and current, and ultimately, create something that really moves an audience. To do that effectively, though, you need to block out all the noise and focus on the core story.
It also really bothers me when small, unnecessary details pull you out of a movie. Those distractions break the immersion and make you start thinking about the film instead of experiencing it. That’s a sign of a bad movie – when you’re no longer lost in the story and instead find yourself critically examining it.
Writing a script – including characters, story, dialogue, and action – is definitely possible for one person. It just requires dedication and enough time.
