‘Every Tear I Have Shed Is…’: One Direction’s Co-Creator Simon Cowell Expresses Grief Over Liam Payne’s Death

As someone who was fortunate enough to have been part of the journey that led to the creation of One Direction, I can honestly say that Liam Payne will forever hold a special place in my heart. From his audition at 14 years old, singing Cry Me A River with such passion and charisma, to seeing him grow into the talented artist he became, it has been an incredible ride.

Simon Cowell, a judge on the X-Factor and instrumental in launching the globally famous band One Direction, has honored Liam Payne, a former member of the group, following his sad demise. On October 16, it was confirmed that Liam had passed away due to severe injuries sustained from falling off a third-story hotel balcony. The singer behind Strip That Down was pronounced dead.

Ever since the heartbreaking news spread far and wide, an outpouring of tributes from musical greats, family members, and friends has been flooding in. Among them is Simon Cowell, who was instrumental in forming the legendary band and jump-started the careers of Payne and his bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn, and Louis Tomlinson on X Factor back in 2010 – that’s me referring to myself.

On October 18th, Cowell expressed his tribute to the deceased singer on Instagram: “Liam, I’m overwhelmed with sorrow, grief-stricken, and feeling hollow. Let me convey my deep affection and admiration for you. Each tear I shed is a memory of you.

Initially, the record executive encountered Payne at age 14, leaving the X-Factor judges spellbound by his performance of the popular Michael Bublé tune, “Cry Me a River.

At first, Cowell did not select him for the talent competition, but Payne regrouped and showed remarkable improvement in his vocal abilities, eventually captivating the public’s affection. As Cowell reminisced, “Within a short span of time, the entire world came to know Liam.

Syco Records’ founder spoke about his last conversation with Payne. “We talked about all the good times we shared,” he shared. After their chat, Cowell was reminded that the musician remained just as kind and sweet as when they first met over a decade ago. He also remembered meeting Bear, who has the same charming smile and sparkling eyes as his father.

He’s always considered each of the five band members like brothers, and in reference to their messages today, he feels they truly embodied that sentiment. Wrapping up his tribute, Cowell expressed his hopes for peace for the deceased musician and extended his condolences to his family and friends.
