William Shatner celebrated his 95th birthday on March 22nd, and proved he’s still full of life with a playful message to his fans. He posted on social media, joking that he’s “still smokin’.” The post included a collage of photos – one of him smiling and another of him relaxing with a cigar.
Along with the pictures, the Star Trek star shared some advice he’s gathered over his nearly 100 years: “Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who tells you to ‘act your age.’” This energetic outlook on aging has become well-known for Shatner in recent years.

William Shatner is best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk, a role he first took on in 1966. For decades, he led the starship Enterprise in the original television series and seven movies, with the character’s story ending in 1994.
Beyond Star Trek, Shatner also received praise for his work in shows like T.J. Hooker and won an Emmy for his role as Denny Crane in Boston Legal. The actor has often expressed gratitude for his long life and the loving relationships he has with his family.
Recently, in late 2025, he shared how thankful he was for his health, family, and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones. He has three daughters—Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie—from his marriage to Gloria Rand, and often speaks about how proud he is of their achievements.
Each year, William Shatner dedicates his birthday to supporting his favorite charities. For the past thirty-five years, he’s organized the Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which has raised millions of dollars for children’s and veterans’ groups. He previously explained to reporters that he celebrates his birthday by working on this successful event. Now, as he turns 96, Shatner isn’t slowing down. He’s currently preparing for a tour with appearances at Planet Comicon in Kansas City and Steel City Con in April, and will travel to England in May to meet fans at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool alongside other science fiction stars.
The experienced entertainer remains active behind the scenes through his documentaries and hosting of The UnXplained. He recently had successful shoulder surgery to fix an injury from a horse-riding accident and shared with fans that he’s feeling much better and eager to return to work.
Fans will have a chance to meet him at a special fan club event and charity dinner on May 30th in Burbank, California. This event offers a more personal experience with the actor and supports his charitable work.
