Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Finally Getting That Elusive DLC Expansion? Fans Found Hidden Clues in Anniversary Art

When Capcom posted a message celebrating the second anniversary of their large open-world RPG, most people didn’t expect much – just a celebratory image. There were no announcements about updates or new content. However, fans quickly noticed something interesting: hidden details, including a new character and a note, have led to speculation that Capcom might be hinting at the highly anticipated DLC expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The most puzzling part of the image is a shadowy figure, seen from behind and illuminated with blue light. This figure stands among the known Vocation Maisters – Beren, Hail, and Cliodhna – which is unusual because everyone else pictured is easily recognizable. Many fans speculate this could be a hint at a new, fist-fighting Vocation Maister coming in the downloadable content.

There’s also a letter lying on the table. Fans discovered it was written using the in-game language of Gransys. Once translated, the letter says, “Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern Organ region have been confirmed.”

That single line immediately led to much more discussion. The original game often hints at a northern area players can’t explore. However, the name “Organ” never appears anywhere in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The excitement stems from past frustration with the original game. Players felt it lacked enough things to do after finishing the main story and didn’t have enough different enemies to fight. They’ve been hoping for an expansion to fix these problems, so any hint of new content feels like a welcome relief for those who’ve spent a lot of time in the world of Gransys.

As a longtime Capcom fan, I’ve definitely noticed they love releasing updated versions and expansions of their games – remember how many different versions of Street Fighter 2 there were? It was almost a running joke! But this time, what they’re doing feels a little different than usual.

The first Dragon’s Dogma came out in 2012, and the large Dark Arisen expansion followed about a year later. Devil May Cry 5 also had a similar release schedule, getting its Special Edition – which included a playable Vergil – around 20 months after the initial game. If the recent anniversary art hints at an update, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s expansion would be taking significantly longer to release. It will have been over two years since the game launched by the time any new content arrives.

Fans have discovered hints within the game’s code pointing to content that was planned but never released. This includes references to an ‘Extra Content’ pack and a potential ‘boss rush’ mode, as well as data suggesting a multiplayer expansion called ‘Tower of the New Moon.’ While these haven’t been officially announced, they indicate some ideas were ultimately abandoned.

This news comes at a key moment, as the game’s creator, Hideaki Itsuno, left Capcom for Tencent’s LightSpeed Studios last August, raising questions about the future of the Dragon’s Dogma series. If Capcom is planning downloadable content, it could be among the last contributions from Itsuno’s team.
