People are saying Kanye West returned to form with new song ‘Beauty and the Beast’

As a long-time fan who has followed Kanye West’s music journey since his early days, I can confidently say that the new song “Beauty and the Beast” is a refreshing return to form for the artist. The sparse backing music, reminiscent of his 2008 LP “808s & Heartbreak,” harkens back to the sample-heavy, boom-bap production style that first captivated me.

Initially, Kanye West mesmerized music enthusiasts with his debut albums. However, a significant number of fans have voiced their displeasure with his more recent works. A recurring complaint is that West moved away from his signature style of heavily sampling and creating boom-bap beats, as showcased in albums such as 2004’s The College Dropout and 2005’s Late Registration.

Fans are now complimenting his recent track “Beauty and the Beast,” stating that it echoes his previous work. The tune features him singing softly over minimal instrumentation, much like his 2008 album, titled “808s & Heartbreak.

Furthermore, in contrast to some of West’s earlier works that lean towards being more like scores than typical songs, “Beauty and the Beast” carries a subtle, understated feel. This could be due to the fact that he employed an ASR machine for sampling and the SP-1200 drum machine, both older tools in music production.

In the chorus of his upcoming album “Bully”, currently being worked on in Tokyo, Kanye West sings about constantly pondering a situation, hoping to avoid it while maintaining engagement with his audience, and requesting understanding as this is not intended disrespectfully, rather a threefold effort at redirection.

Last month in Haikou, China, Kanye West showcased “Beauty and the Beast” at his Vultures 2 listening event. However, Mike Dean, the producer who has recently distanced himself from West due to his anti-Semitic comments, labeled the track as a remnant from Donda, West’s album released in 2021.

Personally, I was thoroughly impressed by the response to Kanye West’s latest post on Instagram. Comments like, “He’s definitely back!” and “This is set to be Ye’s most impressive comeback album yet,” were common. Another fan even predicted, “I have a feeling ‘Bully’ will become a classic.
