Metallica takes M72 Tour into 2025: 21 new shows and a legacy of impact

As a lifelong Metallica fan who’s had the privilege of witnessing their electrifying performances since the early ’80s, I can confidently say that the upcoming M72 tour extension is nothing short of a dream come true for us die-hards! The band’s commitment to delivering unique and unforgettable shows, coupled with their dedication to giving back through the All Within My Hands foundation, makes each concert experience not just a night of headbanging fun but also a chance to contribute to meaningful causes.

Metallica is planning to carry on their “M72” world tour into a third year, with 21 North American shows scheduled for April, May, and June 2025. This extension follows the already highly successful tour that started in Amsterdam in April 2023, attracting a massive 3 million fans across various continents. The 2025 part of the “M72” tour will maintain the band’s popular “No Repeat Weekends,” ensuring each night of a two-show stand features a unique setlist and supporting acts.

This innovative show style has resonated with audiences, offering a mix of novelty and thrill to performances. In the 2025 North American tour, acts such as Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills will join Metallica’s lineup. The M72 tour stands out as one of the most daring ventures in Metallica’s illustrious history.

Kirk Hammett from Metallica stated, “This is undeniably our most grand-scale production yet.

The 2024 tour ended with four extraordinary shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City, attracting more than 250,000 fans during two distinct “Non-Repeat Weekends.” This notable series of concerts will establish Metallica as one of the select bands who can consistently sell out massive venues over a short timeframe.

Who is Metallica (in case you’ve been living under a rock)?

Ever since its debut in 1981, Metallica has been a trailblazer in the heavy metal genre, continually testing and expanding musical limits through groundbreaking records such as “Kill ‘Em All” (1983), “Master of Puppets” (1986, added to the National Registry in 2015), and “The Black Album” (1991). This album has sold over 16 million copies just within the U.S., making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

There’s no denying their impact on rock and metal, and their M72 tour serves as a testament to their dominance as an exceptional live act. Even if you have opinions about the delivery of “Enter Sandman,” it’s clear that Metallica continues to rule the stage. Moreover, they’ve announced plans to return to Australia and New Zealand in 2025 – regions they haven’t visited for quite some time. This news has left fans down under thrilled with anticipation.

Metallica gives back

Just like past Metallica concerts, a slice of the ticket sales will go towards supporting the band’s charity, the All Within My Hands foundation. Established in 2017, this organization has managed to amass over $15 million, making a substantial impact on numerous issues. Among these are $8.2 million distributed as grants for vocational and technical education programs, including the Metallica Scholars Initiative, now in its sixth year.

According to James Hetfield, when we introduced the Metallica Scholars Initiative, it truly resonated with me. Our common aim was to challenge the negative perception surrounding trade jobs. Trade jobs are crucial for our society, and what’s even more significant is providing encouragement to those who are striving to build a career by mastering these skills.

Apart from their concerts in 2025, which promise to uphold the band’s renowned blend of grand stadium shows with charitable acts, Metallica has already donated over $7.1 million – half for combating food shortages and the other half for disaster relief efforts. This demonstrates their long-standing dedication to giving back to communities that have supported them throughout the years. In essence, Metallica continues to stand out as one of the world’s most impactful and influential bands by balancing exceptional live performances with meaningful philanthropy.
