Barry Keoghan recently shared how online negativity has impacted both his personal life and his work. The 33-year-old actor talked about this during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on March 20, with clips later published by Elite Daily.
He’s found it hard to be online lately due to all the negative comments he sees directed at him. While he tries to limit his social media use, he admits he sometimes gets drawn back in, particularly to see how people react to his public appearances.
Barry said the online response to him was very critical, particularly focusing on how he looks. This negativity has made him more cautious about going out and participating in public events, causing him to withdraw from social situations more often than he used to.
He shared that he stepped away from the internet, but he’s still naturally curious about how his work is received when he’s out in public. However, he finds a lot of negativity and hurtful comments about his appearance online.
He explained that the ongoing criticism has really shaken his confidence. It’s gotten to the point where he avoids being around people and sometimes just wants to stay home. He emphasized how much this has been affecting him.
He explained, “I’m being completely honest with you – this is becoming a real issue. I’m not avoiding things, but I do find myself staying home more because of it. And when that starts to affect my work, when I don’t even want to be on camera anymore, that’s when it becomes a problem.”
Honestly, it really gets to me thinking about how this online stuff could impact my son, Brando, down the road. It just bothers me to imagine him growing up and seeing negative things people say about his dad. I want him to have a positive image of me, and it’s tough knowing that’s potentially out there.
He expressed his sadness for the fans, but also worried about his son eventually seeing all the negative comments and reports.
The interview reveals the impact of online criticism on Barry Keoghan, extending beyond his public image to affect his personal well-being and mental health. It also illustrates the intense pressure faced by celebrities when their looks become a constant topic of online conversation.
