’19 Kids and Counting’ Star Joseph Duggar Arrested as Serious Allegations Surface

Joseph Duggar, known from the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting, was arrested this week in Tontitown, Arkansas. The charges stem from an incident that allegedly happened during a family vacation to Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020, and involve a child who was nine years old at the time.

So, I just saw the news – the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida officially confirmed they’ve charged Duggar with some really disturbing stuff. Apparently, he’s being accused of lewd and lascivious behavior, which basically means molestation of someone under the age of twelve, and generally acting inappropriately towards a minor. It’s awful, honestly.

The investigation picked up speed after the 14-year-old victim recently gave a detailed statement to investigators. She described several times when Duggar supposedly used a blanket to conceal unwanted touching while they were sitting on the couch.

The arrest report states that on March 17th, the teenager’s father spoke with the former TV personality. During that conversation and later questioning by police in Tontitown, the reality star admitted to committing the acts.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim said Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap and, as their vacation continued, asked her to sit close to him on the couch and covered them with a blanket. Authorities state Duggar also manipulated her during this time.

The victim stated the behavior stopped after Duggar apologized for what happened on the trip. However, years later, legal issues have arisen because the victim, with the support of law enforcement, has now come forward.

Duggar is currently in jail in Arkansas and will soon be transferred to Florida to face felony charges. This legal trouble comes as another setback for the family, following a similar conviction almost five years ago.

Look, it’s tough to talk about, but Josh Duggar, my older brother, is currently in federal prison serving a 12-year sentence. The charges involved receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, and honestly, it was devastating. It led to the complete cancellation of everything our family did in media – all the shows, everything – and really damaged our reputation. It’s been a really hard time for everyone.

It’s been really quiet from Joseph and Kendra Duggar since Counting On was cancelled back in 2021. They used to share a lot of their lives with us online, especially with their four kids, but they stopped posting on social media around the end of 2021. It seems like things got tougher for the family with all the legal issues they were facing, and they just needed more privacy.

Until recently, Joseph focused on buying, renovating, and selling properties in Northwest Arkansas. He and Kendra had been living a private life, rarely appearing publicly except for brief glimpses in family videos or pictures.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar haven’t officially commented on the recent accusations involving their son. Over the past few years, several of their adult children have stepped away from the family’s leadership and have openly discussed the strict way they were raised.

The recent arrest has made it much harder for the family to return to public life and entertainment. Instead of support, most public attention is now focused on documentaries investigating the difficult aspects of their religious beliefs and the problems within their family.

I remember when ’19 Kids and Counting’ first came out in 2008 – it was pitched as this super wholesome show about a big family with strong faith values. But honestly, with all the scandals that kept surfacing, the whole image of the show, and the family behind it, has completely flipped. Now, a lot of people are demanding a closer look at everything that happened back then, and I can’t say I blame them.
