Rebel Wilson is involved in a growing legal battle that now extends beyond the filmmakers of her first movie to the wealthy investor who supports them. On March 17th, the actress shared her frustration on Instagram, accusing billionaire Len Blavatnik of funding several lawsuits against her.
The dispute began because of Wilson’s work on her musical, called The Deb, which she directed and performed in. The show’s producers – Gregor Cameron, Vince Holden, and Amanda Ghost – had previously sued her for defamation, claiming she falsely accused them of stealing almost $900,000 from the production.
Wilson previously accused director Shane Van Dyke (known as ‘Ghost’) of sexually harassing the film’s star, Charlotte MacInnes, but MacInnes has publicly stated this did not happen. Although a judge recently rejected some of Wilson’s legal claims against the production, she continues to publicly criticize them.
The actress explained she went to New York to speak with Blavatnik at his home, hoping he would help resolve issues his employees were having. Wilson wrote that she truly believed he would take action, but was let down when the meeting didn’t lead to the support she’d hoped for.
Wilson claims the billionaire is using his wealth to pursue legal action against her in multiple countries. She states he has funded four lawsuits on two continents, although some sources indicate there are currently only three active cases.
Wilson also took a controversial step by posting a screenshot from the released Epstein files, which seemed to name the billionaire Len Blavatnik. The document reportedly showed Jeffrey Epstein asking someone to help a friend find a job, but it didn’t suggest any wrongdoing by Blavatnik.
Wilson believes powerful people are intentionally trying to silence her because of concerns she raised about questionable activity on her film set. She wonders if there’s a bigger story they’re trying to hide, suggesting they have a strong motive to keep her quiet.
The actress stated she’s ready to give evidence in court and won’t be deterred by what she describes as baseless lawsuits and attempts to control public perception. A defamation case involving her is set to begin in Australia on April 20th.
Wilson is currently working on a new comedy film called Girl Group, which she both wrote and will direct. The movie centers around a retired pop star who mentors a teenage girl group, and stars Randall Park and Melanie Chisholm alongside other cast members.
Besides her acting, Wilson recently published her memoir, Rebel Rising. The book faced some legal issues and required edits before it was released worldwide. Throughout this challenging legal battle, Wilson has continued to achieve professional success and speak out about the need for more openness in Hollywood.
