He has now channeled his grief into a song called “End of an Era,” which is featured on his new album, Dinner Party.
Niall Horan has spoken publicly for the first time about the loss of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne. The 32-year-old admitted he needed time to privately grieve after the funeral, describing a wave of emotions – nostalgia, fear, and sadness – as he remembered their shared experiences.
Having been in One Direction together, they share a unique bond and many private memories. As one of them explained, being in the group created an experience that only they understood, because of the constant presence of a team and other people. They felt that this specific connection was something no one else could truly know.
The singer of ‘This Town’ fondly remembered meeting Liam Payne, noting he seemed to be in high spirits and they had shared a laugh just a few days before his tragic death. He recalled receiving the news, saying he was completely stunned. ‘I just got a message and couldn’t believe it,’ he said. ‘It didn’t seem real. You don’t expect to hear about someone so young passing away, especially someone you’d just seen. I went through waves of shock, sadness, and then anger.’
Julian Bunetta, who co-wrote Niall Horan’s song for Liam, explained they kept refining it until they were happy with the result. He added that it would have been understandable to avoid writing about such a difficult topic, and he’s proud of Niall for addressing it anyway.
