As a seasoned Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiast with over two decades of comic book-inspired film viewing under my belt, I must admit that the news about the prolonged absence of the Guardians of the Galaxy from our screens is a bitter pill to swallow.
The movie titled “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” came out more than a year back and made some substantial advancements within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unlike various other productions that faced challenges, this third part managed to impress both critics and the audience at the box office.
The movie marked a significant shift as the main team members parted ways, with each going down their individual paths. Star-Lord decided to revisit Earth to explore his human roots, Gamora associated with the Ravagers, Mantis pursued her personal aspirations, and Nebula and Drax remained on Knowhere to look after the children they saved from the High Evolutionary’s vessel.
Fans are excited to learn about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they eagerly await more news. The third film suggested that Star-Lord will reappear at some point, but there were no details given about the other team members, except for a post-credit scene which introduces a new squad led by Rocket Raccoon, consisting of Adam Warlock, Phyla, Blurp, Cosmo, and Kraglin.
Nevertheless, should the team reappear within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expect a noticeably altered lineup. This is due to the confirmation from Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana that they won’t be part of it anymore.
In a recent AMA, industry insider Alex Perez shared disheartening news for Guardians of the Galaxy fans, suggesting that the team won’t be making an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a considerable period. When queried about their present endeavors, Alex mentioned they are “protecting the galaxy,” but subtly implied that fans may need to exercise patience before catching another glimpse of them.
There’s been some debate among fans about whether Star-Lord will reappear in future Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as they are puzzled by the closing text in Vol. 3. Perez hinted at a potential storyline involving Star-Lord leading the Annihilators, but he’s uncertain about the current path the creators are taking.
The Annihilators represent a group of superheroes within the Marvel Comics universe, who predominantly specialize in cosmic affairs. They were formed post-events of the “Annihilation” narrative, where an intense battle unfolded between cosmic beings and dangers that threatened the Marvel Universe as a whole.
Among the standout characters of the Annihilators team are Nova, who will debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Gladiator, and the Silver Surfer, who is anticipated to make his appearance in the MCU as well.
