Zack Snyder is revisiting a key film from his early career – his 2004 debut, Dawn of the Dead – as he often does in March.
Zack Snyder posted on Instagram remembering the release of his first movie, a 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He said he’s always thankful for this beginning, as the film was inspired by the classic original by George A. Romero.
Dawn of the Dead hit theaters on March 19, 2004, and was Snyder’s feature directorial debut.

March keeps meaning something for Zack Snyder
That post also fits a pattern fans have been watching closely.
March is a special month for Zack Snyder – it’s his birthday, and also when many of his most popular films have come out, creating memorable experiences for his fans.
I’ve noticed, and a lot of other fans have too, that Zack Snyder has been really focusing on March lately with all his older posts. It’s like he’s hinting that something important is happening this month, and it’s definitely got everyone’s attention!
For fans of director Zack Snyder, March is a significant month. It’s when several of his most famous films were released, including Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Batman v Superman, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which just marked its fifth anniversary.

James Gunn is part of the Dawn of the Dead story too
What also stands out is that Dawn of the Dead connects Snyder directly to James Gunn.
James Gunn wrote the screenplay for the 2004 film Dawn of the Dead. Director Zack Snyder recently shared behind-the-scenes photos and fondly remembered Gunn’s work, calling it a moment of pride and specifically acknowledging Gunn as the writer.
The film Dawn of the Dead helped launch the careers of Zack Snyder and James Gunn, marking one of their first significant collaborations before they became prominent figures at DC Comics.
It’s interesting to me that this recent post celebrating the film’s anniversary was different from Zack Snyder’s previous one. This time, he really focused on the movie itself and how it launched his career as a director. Unlike before, he didn’t mention James Gunn at all, which I found pretty noticeable.
Gunn previously praised Snyder publicly
Not tagging Gunn doesn’t mean there’s any beef, as it’s been said the pair are friends.
Last year, James Gunn shared a photo with Zack Snyder on Instagram, praising him as both a talented filmmaker and a fantastic storyteller.
The post gained a lot of views because it demonstrated that the two were still on good terms publicly, even after James Gunn became head of DC Studios.
