NIOBE Anime From Stranger Comics in the Works

Sebastian A. Jones, the writer and creator of the popular graphic novel series The Untamed (published through his Stranger Comics imprint), is building out the story’s universe in exciting new ways. For those unfamiliar, the original book takes place in the fantasy world of Asunda and centers on The Stranger, a character who’s made a dangerous pact with dark powers. He’s on a desperate mission to find the seven people who murdered his family within seven days, or face terrible consequences.

During his adventures, he encounters Niobe Atuyami, an extraordinary young woman with a unique heritage – she’s half-elf, half-human, and possesses both angelic and demonic traits. Niobe’s compelling story proved so popular that it spawned its own successful comic book series. Now, The Untamed: A Sinner’s Prayer is being adapted into a film, a project spearheaded by Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions. Plus, Niobe’s story will continue in a brand-new anime series created by Mollo Animation, and a trailer is coming out very shortly! We’re offering an exclusive first look at the vibrant animation style viewers can anticipate.

This project started when artist Tehani Farr, who Jones previously worked with on Niobe: She Tribe, told him she had fans in Africa. Farr shared that people recognized her artwork when she attended Comic Con Africa. This led Jones to collaborate with actress Thuso Mbedu to create a story appealing to that audience.

Jones explained to TopMob that after being connected with the event organizers, she was flown to Comic Con Africa where she unexpectedly met Thuso. They appeared on stage together to celebrate Niobe: She Tribe, which Jones described as a surreal experience. She later attended Comic Con Cape Town and connected with animator and director Lola Aikins. Jones shared her plan to create a Niobe anime and expressed her desire to include South African talent. This led Stranger Comics to collaborate with Lola, Marthinus Van Rooyen, and the team at Mollo Animation.

The first trailer for the Niobe anime will be released on March 21st at StrangerCon. The event will be live-streamed from 10 AM to 6 PM PST, and the Niobe trailer will debut at 12 PM PST. Marthinus Van Rooyen, Lola Atkins, and the writer, Jones, are all directing the anime. Fans will also get an early look at the show’s animation style and colorful visuals.

This exciting preview will get fans excited for the next chapter of Niobe and kicks off a new fundraising campaign. Fans of The Untamed can now support Jones and Stranger Comics on Kickstarter to create the first-ever Omnibus collection, Tales of Asunda Tome Vol. 1. This deluxe hardcover graphic novel will be oversized and packed with content, including nine comic issues, artwork, stories, and songs.

Fans can also look forward to a prequel comic and a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition game module called The Untamed: Wishing Well. This comic features the Stranger and the world’s creator, Dura, in a standalone story, and it’s the first issue of Tales of Asunda Volume 3. The Kickstarter campaign for these new projects will launch at the same time as the trailer for Niobe.
