Netflix Announces Cast for Live-Action SCOOBY DOO Series

Zoinks! The Scooby Doo gang is reuniting for a new live-action series on Netflix! McKenna Grace, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Maxwell Jenkins will star as the mystery-solving kids. Get ready for some spooky adventures – it’s time to start investigating!

Scooby Doo is a hugely popular franchise. It began as a cartoon featuring four teenage detectives and their dog, and quickly expanded to include toys, food, team-ups with other shows, live-action films, and even more animated series. The first live-action movie came out in 2002 with Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Daphne, Linda Cardellini as Velma, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred. These actors are still strongly associated with those roles, which makes it a challenge for the new cast to step into their shoes.

On March 18th, Netflix revealed the actors who will star in its new series. Mckenna Grace will play Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen will be Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson will portray Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins will take on the role of Fred Jones. Netflix has also released an official description of the show:

This is a fresh take on the classic teen detectives and their amazing dog. As Shaggy and Daphne enjoy their last summer at camp, they stumble into a spooky mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy who might have seen something terrible happen. They team up with Velma, a logical and practical local, and Freddy, a new and intriguing student, to unravel the case. But solving the mystery could reveal hidden secrets from everyone’s past and pull them into a terrifying nightmare.

Where Do I Know Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby Doo Cast From?

The latest additions to this popular franchise are up-and-coming actors, and some faces might look familiar. Maxwell Jenkins is known for playing Will Robinson on Netflix’s Lost in Space and recently appeared with Kevin Bacon in The Bondsman. Tanner Hagen and Abby Ryder Fortson both had roles in an episode of The Pitt, but Fortson is perhaps best known for starring in the film Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Mckenna Grace is quickly becoming one of the most recognizable young actors of our time. She’s been in a lot lately, including Scream 7, Regretting You, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and she’s also set to appear in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

A live-action Scooby Doo series is coming to Netflix, created in partnership with Warner Bros. Television. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will lead the show as showrunners and executive producers. While it’s hard to imagine anyone replacing the original actors, this new series promises a fresh perspective on the beloved story. Now, all that’s left to do is see how they’ll solve the mystery! Production is scheduled to start shortly.
