As someone who grew up glued to the Disney Channel, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I see that iconic wand commercial again. The thought of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman wielding those magic sticks brings back memories of afternoons spent watching cartoons and dreaming about drawing mouse ears with a magical wand.
Growing up in a specific era, the phrase “And you’re watching Disney Channel” would stir powerful feelings of nostalgia. Along with the flood of memories from after-school TV, you might recall a glittery wand used by Disney Channel actors to draw mouse ears in the air during commercial breaks. Yes, those were the iconic Disney Channel Wand advertisements featuring numerous Disney Channel stars. Regrettably, Disney Channel no longer exists, but it has been replaced by Disney+ where some of our beloved Disney Channel shows can be found. However, the magic wand is still around! In honor of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman revived the wand… and reminded us that Reynolds was once a star on the Disney TV network. (Naturally, they also took time to poke fun at Green Lantern; the Disney wand is versatile.)
Check out Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s reimagined versions of old “and you’re watching Disney Channel” commercials down below… It was definitely a blunder to unleash Deadpool and Wolverine with their magical Disney staff!

The Disney wand video is extra content you get when you purchase the digital version of Deadpool & Wolverine, which became available on October 1st for streaming. Alongside this treat, other special features for Deadpool & Wolverine include deleted scenes and a side-splitting skit where Deadpool critiques his merchandise with an emphasis on butt references. You can find more details about the digital release of Deadpool & Wolverine (including that skit) here.
In the interim, aside from the Disney wand motion and the generous sprinkling of sparkles, this special feature for Deadpool & Wolverine transports us explicitly back to 1998. It jogs our memory that Ryan Reynolds once starred in a Disney original movie, Tourist Trap, all those years ago. Interestingly enough, he portrayed a character named Wade in it! Isn’t that a coincidence? It seems we’ll need to continue this nostalgic journey with that film. By the way, you can catch it on Disney+.
Indeed, although Hugh Jackman didn’t star in Tourist Trap, he ultimately has the final joke. In a cheeky manner reminiscent of Deadpool and Wolverine, Jackman playfully employs his Disney magic wand to bestow a Green Lantern mask upon Reynolds. Truly grown-up humor!
Deadpool & Wolverine is now on digital. You can read our review here.
