As an old-timer survivor of the apocalypse, I must say, this story of Carol and Daryl’s adventures has me shaking my head in disbelief. It seems like every time these two get themselves into trouble, they manage to stumble upon another unsuspecting soul who becomes a stepping stone for their journey.
Title Announcement: “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – ‘Carol’s Quest’
In France, tensions rise as those at the Nest find out Genet has some of their companions imprisoned due to Pouvoir’s actions. This situation could jeopardize their safety and potentially endanger Laurent once more. Daryl shares Sylvie’s view that they must free these people, given his affinity for combat. He questions whether he can find contentment at the Nest when there are individuals he hasn’t left behind.
He wonders if his friends are thinking of him and then we cut to Carol back in the US. She goes to that junkyard where Daryl ended up being captured and begins to ask for information about “the guy who owned that bike” before Mick. (If you remember, she beat him up and stuffed him in that car trunk.) Predictably, the guys try to give her a hard time so she gets Daryl’s crossbow and makes hell for them until one guy finally admits the truth.
After some time, she manages to locate a vehicle and hastens along the road, uncertain about her next move. Coincidentally, a compact plane passes above, drawing her gaze for an extended moment. Inadvertently, she collides with a pedestrian and wrecks the car, inflicting a gash on her skull. Despite this mishap, Carol persists in battling walkers and pursues the aircraft towards a modest dwelling equipped with a greenhouse. This self-contained estate features barriers for security. However, Carol clandestinely enters the property and initiates a distress act to catch the attention of a male resident. His name is Ash, he lives there solitarily, and indeed, that’s his aircraft. He is also quite handsome, although this aspect isn’t relevant to the story at hand.
Ash has cracked the code of surviving solo. He has a generator and a pretty decent food supply along with a literal airplane. He mainly uses it to get above everything for a while. Honestly, it is shocking that the CRM hasn’t noticed him nor taken him out yet. The next day, he goes for a quick flight to look for parts and Carol’s nosy ass goes into his shed and greenhouse to snoop around. She finds a world map but then his generator goes out and walkers get past the fence. She fights them and tears a portion of his whole greenhouse up in a walker battle.
Ash is rightfully annoyed that she entered his personal space and asks her to depart. She expresses remorse and desires friendship instead. Ash confides in her about Avi, his late son who had a similar fate as Sophia when he wandered off. The greenhouse holds a commemorative area for Avi. His son’s demise is the reason behind Ash’s reluctance to travel or leave his plane.
Instead of falsely claiming her daughter Sophia and husband were in France during the outbreak to connect with him, Carol deceives him. She tells him that Sophia might still be alive, which is a manipulative tactic. However, Ash is skeptical due to the lack of communication and weather forecasts, making such a journey risky, especially since it’s been over a decade since the outbreak. Furthermore, considering Rick’s group moved from Atlanta to Virginia and Daryl is fighting in France, it seems unlikely that they would still be in the same location.
In summary, during their work on the plane, an unexpected power grid failure occurs at night, causing a fire in Ash’s ethanol storage. This draws walkers towards them. To escape, Carol and Ash take the plane and fly towards dawn, setting course for France. Although they don’t touch down in this episode, it is clear that the flight will get Carol to another continent. Join us as we uncover more of her journey during season two of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
To put it frankly, it seems rather obvious that Ash probably won’t survive. This narrative appears to be more centered around Daryl and Carol, with Ash serving as a means to move them from one location to another. It’s unfortunate for his character.
