Sophie Turner Spills Beans Over Her Character In New Film Joan: ‘She Is So Different From Anyone I’ve Ever Played’

As an ardent fan, I am absolutely thrilled about Sophie Turner taking on the role of Godmother in Joan! Her transformation from the resilient Sansa Stark to a jewelry thief with a heart of gold is nothing short of remarkable. The fact that she auditioned for this role while heavily pregnant and secured it immediately after giving birth just goes to show her relentless dedication to her craft.

In an exciting turn of events, I, Sophie Turner, have landed the esteemed role of the Godmother in the forthcoming suspense drama, Joan. This captivating series will see me stepping into the shoes of a skilled jewel thief, who through her exploits, has earned the title ‘Godmother’. Delving into this intriguing character, I was drawn to the maternal side she exudes that ultimately convinced me to join the cast.

In conversation with Variety, the actress claimed that even though Godmother has strong connections with the underworld and crimes, she is also a mother who would go to any lengths for her child.

Regarding securing the project, the actress openly admitted that she tried out for the role while expecting a baby, and received a callback right after she had delivered. When discussing the character, Turner stated, “I went for it because she’s unlike any character I’ve portrayed before.

During that time, the actress remembered her encounter with the genuine Joan. As for the British actress, she disclosed that they had met their inspiration for the series only a week prior to starting filming, and it was delightful to share the same space with her.

In more detail, the actress asserted, “About a week prior to filming, she was simply extraordinary. A whirlwind of energy, she truly animates any space. It was a pleasure getting to know her.

In addition, she stated that during our initial encounter, we barely discussed her personal life. By the time I met her, the character was already well-established in my mind, which made our meeting purely out of a strong desire to learn more about her, driven by curiosity.

During our chat, Sophie mused about her potential role in future seasons of Game of Thrones. When queried about a possible comeback to the popular show, the actress expressed that she might rejoin the series if the entire team, including the actors and crew, remained unchanged.

In addition, she also pondered about her character, Sansa, and questioned if she’d still be the queen in the North, if she would make a good ruler, or if there’d be another devastating conflict. “I wonder what would happen,” expressed Turner, “and I would enjoy seeing it unfold.

Joan will premiere on ITV on September 29.
