Beau DeMayo Responds to His Original Onslaught and Apocalypse Plans Being Scrapped by Marvel: “Marvel does not care about fans.”

As a long-time fan of the X-Men series, I find myself torn between my love for the franchise and the current state of its latest revival, X-Men ’97. On one hand, the nostalgia factor is strong, with the new season’s storyline and animation style harkening back to the good old days. On the other hand, the controversy surrounding the dismissal of Beau DeMayo, the original showrunner, has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

As a diehard fan, I can’t deny the massive impact X-Men ’97 had on Marvel. Despite some challenges it posed to the series’ canon and the changes it introduced, it was undeniably successful. While there are numerous reasons behind its triumph, in this context, we’ll leave a detailed analysis for another time.

For individuals who’ve seen the initial show, the captivating plot and almost indistinguishable animation style of the new animated series stirred up nostalgic feelings.

Indeed, it’s clear why Disney opted to continue the show. Yet, you should know that a fresh creative team, distinct from the one behind Season 1, will be responsible for this new installment. The mastermind behind the revival series, Beau DeMayo, who served as the original showrunner and creator, was let go due to allegations of misconduct, and since then, he’s been embroiled in an online dispute with Disney.

Lately, we’ve shared updates about DeMayo’s initial ideas for the series, which included “Onslaught” and “Apocalypse,” being abandoned by Disney. Subsequently, the filmmaker voiced his opinion online that Marvel doesn’t value its fans, and surprisingly, some supporters seem to be in agreement with him.

In simpler terms, Beau DeMayo brought back the beloved 90’s animated X-Men series for us. We’ll give it our all to capture its essence.

The show received immense love from fans, but DeMayo was let go allegedly due to inappropriate sexual misconduct before the reboot launched. Ever since, he’s been embroiled in a conflict with Disney, and most recently, it was announced that Disney has abandoned all future plans for the series involving him.

It’s odd that despite DeMayo wrapping up Season 2 entirely and being almost done with Season 3, things have turned out this way. But such is life.

During an extended conversation on Twitter, DeMayo disclosed various intriguing facts (which we’ve covered), yet he didn’t just stop there. He also took the chance to level accusations towards Marvel, suggesting they might neglect their devoted fanbase.

In simpler terms, I don’t have direct communication with DC. However, based on my observations, it appears that Marvel may not prioritize fan opinions as much as some might hope. To be honest, when I suggested considering fan preferences, it was often met with a less than favorable reaction, almost as if I had sworn. Instead, they seem to focus heavily on profit, and they’re known for stating that fans will watch or even hate-watch their productions regardless.

As a fellow enthusiast, I find myself aligning with DeMayo’s perspective on this particular issue. Despite the usual duality in interpretations, it seems that many of us share his viewpoint here.

I hate Disney….

I’ve longed to witness Marvel’s gritty storyline unfold on screen, but it seems like the TV executives fail to appreciate the source material enough.

If that’s true, fuck the creatives. Because we want that

It seems they might be revising seasons 2 and 3 to avoid giving DeMayo his share of producer credits.
