Robert Pattinson DUNE: PART THREE First-Look Image Confirms Scytale Role

New Image Confirms Robert Pattinson Will Play Villain Scytale in Dune: Part Three

It’s still unconfirmed who Robert Pattinson will portray in Dune: Part Three, but recently released photos from the movie strongly suggest he’s taking on the role of Scytale, the villain from Dune Messiah.

As we’ve discussed previously, Scytale is a skilled manipulator allied with formidable foes of Paul Atreides. What makes him particularly dangerous is that he’s a Tleilaxu Face Dancer – a shape-shifter recently introduced in HBO’s Dune: Prophecy. His part in Dune: Messiah is significantly larger than that of his predecessor in the prequel series. He’s also a more clever enemy than Paul faced against the Harkonnens in the first two Dune films directed by Villeneuve.

Okay, so I just saw a first look at Dune: Part Three, and Robert Pattinson’s face… it’s moving. Seriously, it looks like it’s dancing, which immediately made me think of ‘Face Dancers’! That pretty much confirms his role as Scytale, the villain, right? He just has that cunning, intelligent look that’s perfect for the part – exactly what Dune needs in a bad guy.

More About Scytale and the Tleilaxu

I’m really fascinated by the Tleilaxu introduced in Dune: Messiah – especially Scytale! They’re this incredibly secretive group of humans who are masters of bioengineering. Honestly, though, everyone else in the Imperium pretty much despises them because of the questionable, and frankly disturbing, things they do with their technology.

Among their disturbing creations are Face Dancers – shapeshifters originally designed for entertainment. However, their perfect mimicry of appearance, voice, and personality quickly made them ideal for spying and killing. It seems Robert Pattinson’s character, Scytale, in the upcoming Dune: Part Three, is going to be a significant threat.

Pattinson Was Just Vibing on Dune: Part Three Set

Despite playing the manipulative Scytale, Robert Pattinson admits he was completely laid-back on the set of Dune. He explained that the intense desert heat made him too relaxed to even think, saying his brain felt completely switched off and he happily followed director Denis Villeneuve’s every direction. Fans are loving this story about Pattinson, and it sounds like this relaxed approach will actually benefit his performance as the scheming Scytale.

Dune: Part Three will release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
