The 98th Academy Awards have concluded, and it was a great night for horror films! Ryan Coogler’s Sinners won four Oscars, while One Battle After Another was the big winner with six awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Michael B. Jordan received a standing ovation and won Best Actor, beating out Timothée Chalamet. Interestingly, Josh Safdie’s film, despite being nominated nine times, didn’t win any awards – and honestly, many viewers weren’t disappointed by the complete shutout of Marty Supreme.

Timothée Chalamet is facing backlash after a comment he made about ballet and opera, calling them outdated art forms. This sparked criticism, even from prominent figures like Steven Spielberg. Many found his words disappointing, and his loss at the Oscars didn’t generate much sympathy. While it’s hoped he’s rethought his position, the controversy has actually brought a lot of positive attention to opera and ballet, which is a welcome outcome.
I enjoyed watching Marty Supreme, though it wasn’t my top pick among the nominated films. I also saw Sinners and One Battle After Another. I think the Safdie brothers’ film deserves the recognition it’s received, but considering the other strong contenders, I understand and am okay with the Oscar results.
Marty Supreme received nine nominations for the Academy Awards this year, including nods for Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture. While Timothée Chalamet had some wins at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, the film didn’t win any Oscars. Despite the nominations, it ended up with no wins – but that’s just how awards season goes.
As predicted, One Battle and Sinners took home the top prizes at the 2026 Oscars. Jessie Buckley also deservedly won Best Actress – it was clear she was the strongest contender. I’m thrilled for her and will always be a fan!
Overall, the Oscars were a pretty good show. There weren’t any big surprises or unexpected wins – it was just a night of filmmakers celebrating their work. While some hardcore Martin Scorsese fans might be disappointed that he didn’t win any awards, I’m not among them. Most of us are just happy Michael B. Jordan got to enjoy his In-N-Out burger after the ceremony.
