Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Official Trailer Released As Revenge Against The Empire Takes Center Stage

Lucasfilm just dropped a new trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, giving fans a longer preview of the upcoming Disney+ animated series. The trailer makes it clear the story will center around revenge.

In the trailer, Maul declares, “Let us have our revenge,” hinting at a grimmer Star Wars story. Expect intense lightsaber battles, ruthless Imperial Inquisitors, criminal activity, and a planet facing impending conflict.

The all-new series premieres April 6 on Disney+ with a two-episode launch. Watch below.

Maul Declares War On The Empire

Okay, so the new trailer starts by introducing Maul as basically the head of a huge criminal network, and they casually mention he’s really good with a lightsaber – a ‘laser sword,’ as they put it. It quickly becomes clear where the story is going, though; the trailer doesn’t waste much time showing you the main conflict.

Maul states, “The Empire attempted to murder me.” He believes their treachery must be repaid, and to do so, he needs a powerful weapon.

This fits with the overall story of the series, set after the events of The Clone Wars. It centers on Maul as he attempts to restore his criminal organization on Janix, a planet that has remained outside the Empire’s control. While there, he meets Devon Izara, a young Jedi Padawan who seems crucial to his new scheme.

The trailer shows that not everyone trusts Maul’s offer. One character specifically states, “We might both hate the Empire… but we can’t rely on Maul to be on our side.”

Inquisitors, Janix, And More Characters Revealed

I was absolutely thrilled to see a glimpse of the Imperial Inquisitors pursuing Maul in the new footage! They’re really turning up the heat, and it looks like things are getting desperate. We get a good look at two of them – The Crow, who they call the Eleventh Brother, and another imposing figure named Marrok. Honestly, the Empire is really closing in, and it feels like everything is about to spiral out of control, which is incredibly exciting!

“We need to find him. Whatever it takes,” a voice says in the trailer.

“This is escalating out of our hands.”

“The Empire will want answers. The Empire will lock this planet down.”

Lucasfilm unveiled a new poster showcasing Darth Maul as the central figure, surrounded by the main characters from the series. The poster features Devon Izara, Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki, the Mandalorian warrior Rook Kast, the Zabrak brothers Icarus and Scorn, and Looti Vario. Captain Brander Lawson, his droid Two-Boots, and Lawson’s son Rylee also appear, with a Star Destroyer visible in the background above Janix.

What Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Is About

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. From what I understand, it’s a fast-paced, action-packed story set during the very beginning of Palpatine’s rule. It follows Maul as he tries to regain his strength and power, using the planet Janix as the launching pad for his next challenge to the Empire. It sounds like a classic pulp adventure!

I’m really excited about this new story! From what I understand, Darth Maul meets a Jedi who’s lost faith, and he sees this person as someone he could train to help him get his revenge. It sounds like a really interesting dynamic – a fallen Jedi and a Sith Lord teaming up!

The trailer heavily emphasizes this dynamic, with Maul suggesting they team up to fight back. The closing line, “We’re not gonna take out the whole Empire,” hints that the series won’t be about completely defeating Palpatine. Instead, it seems to be more focused on simply surviving, gaining power, and getting revenge within a galaxy increasingly controlled by the Empire.
