During a chat with People magazine, Ian Somerhalder expressed gratitude for having been part of shows like Lost and The Vampire Diaries. However, he stressed that his current attention lies beyond the screen.
I recently shared that it’s been five years since I last graced the camera as an actor and producer, following my work on V Wars. Since then, I’ve chosen to take a break from acting to focus on growing my businesses. This decision has led me to projects like Kiss the Ground, Common Ground, and Ground Swell, and allowed me to devote time to raising my children.
He recalled how he told his management and discussed his decision, noting that he was leaving behind the only career he had ever known that provided for his family.
He mused about being at the pinnacle of his career, with numerous opportunities available to him. However, he underscored that these new partnerships held significantly greater significance for him. Somerhalder went on to say, “I speak with modesty and admiration, but I’d prefer to be involved in this rather than spend two months in a distant city filming a TV series, separated from my family or constantly shuttling them back and forth.
The performer shared that when one achieves a particular degree of accomplishment, they tend to focus more on their family and broader issues such as agriculture, nutrition, energy, and major concerns. He expressed that he no longer has the urge to pursue accolades or anything else that would elevate his self-worth.
In an open conversation with the media outlet, he reminisced about his time working on the popular TV show Lost. He described it as a deeply humbling experience, adding that leaving the show, having been the first one cast and the first one to be written off, was quite difficult for him.
The actor shared with the media that following his departure from the show in 2005, he started working on The Vampire Diaries in 2009. He described this experience as a “rocket ship,” explaining that at first, it had a very young audience, but as they grew older, the show gained more and more followers until it reached nearly 1.2 billion viewers worldwide.
