Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans surprised fans at the Oscars with a mini Avengers reunion. Channing Tatum also appeared as part of a playful bit, giving Marvel enthusiasts a glimpse of the expanding cast for the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday.
Entertainment Tonight shared a video of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans reuniting at the 98th Academy Awards. The clip, available below, shows the pair together nine months before they star in the new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which will be released in theaters on December 18th.
RDJ and Evans reunite on the Oscars stage
It was so fun watching Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. at the Oscars! They clearly have a great history together, and the whole segment was built around their playful banter and joking with each other – the audience absolutely loved it.
The sketch featured a funny moment referencing Magic Mike. Downey joked he’d given Evans a special thong from the show, and Evans playfully responded that he needed it back for a later appearance.
This moment clearly referenced their past work in Marvel films, and also reminded audiences that both actors appeared in Avengers: Doomsday.
Channing Tatum joins the moment
Channing Tatum also appeared in the crowd, adding another Marvel connection to the Oscars reunion.
Jayson Tatum recently recovered from a shoulder injury, and his appearance sparked comparisons to a potential connection with the upcoming Doomsday crossover, particularly following his first look as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Oscars segment featuring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Channing Tatum felt like a subtle advertisement for the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday, even though it wasn’t officially one.

Tatum talks up the movie
In a clip from Entertainment Tonight, Tatum also promoted Avengers: Doomsday, claiming fans won’t be prepared for Marvel’s upcoming plans.
Tatum admitted he was skeptical while reading the script, questioning how they would actually make it work. He believes the audience won’t be prepared for what’s coming, predicting a reaction even bigger than the huge response to Blade’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.
He also said comic book fans especially are going to lose their minds over what’s coming.
