This was clarified by her representatives that the person in question was not authorized to do so. A man identified as Mo Elmasri discussed the statement made by the That’s The Way Love Goes singer.

On Sunday, Elmasri issued an apology stating that the singer was mistakenly informed, but these words were spoken after Jackson made remarks about Kamala Harris.

As a devoted admirer, I recently found myself embroiled in a conversation with a UK outlet where the State of the World singer raised doubts about Kamala Harris’ ancestry, specifically her black origin. These contentious remarks were publicized on September 21, 2024. However, it has been clarified to PEOPLE that I am not Janet Jackson’s manager; rather, Randy Jackson holds that position.

In her assertion, Janet incorrectly stated that Harris isn’t African American, a claim that appears to align with some extremist ideologies on the political right.

During the interview, it was pointed out that Kamala Harris could make history as the first female president of African descent. However, in response, Jackson said he had heard that she is actually of Indian origin.

Later, the singer mentioned that her father is Caucasian, in response to the reporter revealing that Harris has both African-American and Indigenous roots.

“That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days,” the Funny How Time Flies singer mentioned. 

In the continuation of the interview, Janet Jackson expressed her doubts about whether the country was prepared to elect a woman of color as its president.

Instead of engaging in such debates, the versatile Any Time, Any Place artist further remarked that the shift of power could lead to chaos, no matter how it unfolds.

According to a PEOPLE report, Kamala Harris’s mother, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan, was born in India, while her father, Donald J. Harris, came from Jamaica to study economics at UC Berkeley. It was at this university where the two first met. In simpler terms, Kamala Harris’s mother is Indian, and her father is a Jamaican immigrant who studied at UC Berkeley, which is where they met.

According to The Guardian’s report, Harris explicitly states in her book The Truths We Hold that her mother was well aware she was bringing up two African-American girls.

According to their September 21st report, it’s noted that Kamala Harris’s father, Donald J. Harris, is an economist from Jamaica. The report further explains that he and Gopalan separated when Kamala was just five years old.
