As a dedicated fan of Magic: The Gathering since its inception, I can barely contain my excitement as the iconic card game finally makes its way to Netflix! After decades of anticipation and false starts, it’s truly heartening to see this project finally taking shape under the creative direction of Terry Matalas. Known for his work on Star Trek: Picard and Marvel Studios’ Vision series, I have high hopes that he will breathe new life into the world of Magic: The Gathering.
For more than three decades, the trading card game “Magic: The Gathering” has been a cornerstone in its genre, sparking various video games, comics, and novels. The streaming platform has officially confirmed that a “Magic: The Gathering” animated series event is currently in production, with Terry Matalas taking the reins as showrunner. Known for his work as showrunner of “Star Trek: Picard’s” third season and the creative mind behind Marvel Studios’ upcoming series about the Avenger, the Vision, Matalas will provide the primary creative direction for this project.
The recently unveiled “Magic: The Gathering” event series is a collaboration between Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast, who have held ownership of the franchise for many years.
